Far more relevant is, what is your ambient temperature? My ambient temps are 18-20C. I have a Chyang Fun CF2129 case, with a single 120mm NMB fan at 7V on the lower front (where I have cutout all the grills & perspex) blowing about 34cfm. I have an SLK800 with Papst 8412NGL at 12V on my XP2100 (Tbre...

From looking at the volts vs. CFM vs. air pressure chart, I dont think the relation between volts and CFM is linear. Lower voltages will drop CFM more quickly at the same air pressures. http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/appliance/pdf/fba08a.pdf I think the theory (rpm directly proportional to vol...

If I use a rheostat, then I wouldn't have to worry about PWM noise right? Right. Plain setting a voltage different to 12V (7V trick, 5V, rheostat, wot have U) is OK. PWM pulses the +ve power rail and most fan electronics seem to get upset about this. The Comair Rotron site has some interesting Engi...

I wasn't trying to put you off. I did a whole heap of paper research before buying mine and came to the same (high) expectation as you. Fact is I really wanted to use my mobo (A7V333) PWM (all my Papsts sound asthmatic down around 3/16ths, the NMB is no better), and I still run my NMB today because ...

ditto Ralf. The hub size between 80mm fan (34mm according to my ruler) and 120mm fan (41mm) is not out of proportion, IMHO. But coming back to your point I suspect there are 2 problems with the 'infinitely small hub' - first the stall speed near the centre, and second (in our quest for silence) much...

My guess is your boards have the wiring problem. And no, it seems ASUS have been particularly secretive about their chips, so short of hints from Alfredo or the MBM folks I have never seen any published info. 2 dumb checks: you must have the fan drawing power from the mobo header for Speedfan/PWM to...

Katana Man - I've got one of those in the front of my case. As a micro-review: It works as advertised, and was not a 'bad buy'. Having said that, it does have a slight buzz at both 7V and 5V (a long time since I had it at 12V, when I guess the airflow is louder than any buzz). At 7V I can hear the b...

BTW - Rainer who did that review has his own site with his own translation to English - probably a bit more readable than the googled version. Part 1 is here http://www.teschke.de/heatpipes/News/components/Powersupplys/proSilence_Part_1/body_prosilence_part_1.html Part 2 is there http://www.teschke....

IMHO ... (and also applies to the positive/negative case pressure debate) There is no difference between pushing or pulling - moving air (aka wind) is the net result. And moving this air is the basis of cooling a heatsink. However, there are all kinds of subtleties including: - an obstruction close ...

SpyderCat - I have the A7V333 Mobo too! CPU Connector: Controlled by Mobo, as you say Speedfan can read but not control. I haven't tried turning Q-Fan off - maybe that might allow Speedfan to control it. Case Connectors 1+2: Allows good control of the fans. Works well for me. I also have that never...

My 6p. Fan locations are more about where your air goes in or out. We are all here cause of noise, and each extra fan increases noise. So either have all your fans as intakes, or all as exhausts, is my view. Anything else is too many fans. My case has a single 120mm (@ 7V) intake at the bottom front...

OK - I am now running my psu (Jou Jye 350W) fanless. My case is a http://www.chyangfun.com/Product/CF-2029.htm , a version that came with a 120mm hole in the front tin and I carved a matching 120mm hole in the front perspex. So I have an NMB 4710NL-04W-B10-P00 in the front at 7v (my guess blowing 34...
