Re: Home Server

Unless you are already knowledgeable in Linux (or want to invest a fair amount of time and become knowledgeable), probably Windows Home Server is a good solution.

Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

With the attacker dead in this case it's more difficult to know his motive but a racial or religious motive seems possible. Right after a 9/11 (and at times since then including on Sunday) Sikh's have been attacked in the US by people so stupid they don't know the difference between a Muslim and a ...

ces, there is no problem with the moderation here. There never has been. Even if there were, it's not a matter for discussion - the SPCR guys run this site the way they see fit. Their site lives and dies by their decisions, and given that the site is as strong now as it has been for the many years ...

Re: European Commission against democracy in Romania

@m0002a: And what do you think (the original) direct democracy is ? What difference does it make? It is not appropriate for every citizen to vote on every issue. Even when citizens do vote, it is important to protect the rights of the minority and of individuals (where appropriate) against the wish...

Re: European Commission against democracy in Romania

you cant tax people for owning real estate You bet? This is getting ridiculous... Of course you can tax real estate. In the US, we typically pay anywhere from 1-3% of the value of real property per year as real estate taxes to local governments (much of which goes to pay for public schools). These ...

Re: European Commission against democracy in Romania

If Greece left the Euro, it would be even harder for the government to pay its debt. In addition, it would also be harder for the individuals and private organizations. A conversion of the debt from the Euro to the new currency would solve the problem but that would of course be default under anoth...

Re: European Commission against democracy in Romania

Yeah, that's the real issue. But perception is as important as reality. And leaving the Euro (how?) is not going to fix the problem in the short run. I am not an expert on the EU or the Euro, but I don't understand the comment above. If Greece did leave the Euro, it would cause some hardships (impo...

Re: European Commission against democracy in Romania

It's a tiny bit more complicated than that. :-) You've probably heard about this Euro currency that Greece has adopted. Well, there's a few big countries other than Germany and France who have adopted the Euro as well and they've got a stake in this game as well for one thing. And I'm not talking a...

Re: European Commission against democracy in Romania

@m0002a: It's interesting that US representatives can abuse democracy too, but I think you missed my point. Is there any party in the USA who urges the voters, the people (not the representatives), 'DO NOT VOTE', because that's how that party is going to win? That's after someone in Washington forc...

Re: European Commission against democracy in Romania

Same thing happened in the US state of Wisconsin recently. The Democrats in the Wisconsin State Legislature fled town so there would not be enough for a quorum (which requires 60% of legislators to be present) because the Democratic wanted to stop the Republican majority from passing any laws. A ver...

Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

In terms of veto after an act is passed by the commons, it still has to go through the Lords which may oppose sending it back to the commons until the next parliament when it can go through. Suggestion of party bias in the Lords system is somewhat unfounded as under Margaret Thatcher in the 80s, of...

Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

I'm afraid this is incorrect but you are not alone as many people in our own country have the same misunderstanding! The leaderhip of any political party is NOT down to a vote of it's MPs, it is down to however the constitution of the party says. In the case of the major parties this now means a vo...

Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

That much is true, but as you have mentioned in earlier posts, even if a Veto is used it can then be re-voted upon and pushed through without a second (or infinite amount of) veto's, which begs the question of what is the purpose of a veto compared to "the second house" about which I know nothing a...

Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

Again, I have to agree that the information that we in the UK receive about US politics is not as close to the truth as it should be, and yes a great deal of it is gained through TV programs and films. And the US president "always" seems much more powerful than our own "Prime Minister" because he i...

Don't you ever pause to think how things "might" be different. Putting yourself into the mind of another is a very positive ...

Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

That is very messy and often produces stalemates such as the current Obama ere issues, where the political rambling goes on and on and nothing really happens - this is what is referred to in UK politics as "Weak Government". We currently have a milder form of that here in the UK, with a 2-Party coa...

So for your president it is a special case, clearly as you cite 'obvious reasons'. Similarly we have a special case which would apply throughout the commonwealth realms, that of treason, again, only afforded to royalty, are you getting the analogy yet? Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

In the UK, our political system is very different in almost every way, no-one has any Veto ability within the UK political system. There is no need to have a veto power in a parliamentary form of government, since the Prime Minister is elected by the Parliament. In the US, the President and the Con...

They also get to be called 'Mr President' for life, that kind of title comes closest to our royalty...

Threatening the President of the United States is a class D felony under United States Code Title 18, Section 871. Re: Your opinion on US gun laws under Obama.

Classic question dodge. Let me rephrase it for you. If you were the President, had both houses full support (and had been democratically elected), would you (as you DO have the power), dramatically cut down on the gun ownership of your people if there was solid proof that the murder rate would halv...
