Looking good! Music server = very little cpu load (2 to 5% of the CPU unless you are ripping CDs). I'll run some FIR filters realtime for DRC, that's why I'm going with a fast intel cpu. Those can take up to 50%. Tested something on my E8400 and cpu was around 25%. I dont like to swap cpu and heats...

I dont plan to undervolt, i need all the power i can. But the e5300/5400 run cool anyway :) If you go with the Fusion Remote case, as suggested in your config link, your best option will be the Scythe Ninja Mini because of the height. Easily good enough to cool a 5300 using just the case exhaust fan...

Fanless cpu cooler for E5300
For my new HTPC (see config here http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=454766#454766) to cool an E5300 @stock. Horizontal case mount. Preferably without fan, but optionally I can put a nexus @800rpm. Options: TR HR01 plus TR Ultima 90i Noctua NH-U12P Noctua NH-C12P Xigmatech 1283 (dar...

The downside to using a 3 generation old mobo for a new build is: - they stop refining the BIOS...if you are lucky, they add the new CPUIDs and re-release as a beta version. That's my experience with the P5B-E and wolfdale processors. - Newer chipsets will support newer features that you might want...

Hi, thanks for commenting. A couple of comments: - If only doing 2D tasks (BD, DVD, no gaming), you might want to go to just a motherboard that has graphics built-in that meet your needs and perhaps save a few euros. Not sure why you picked a board with the gma3000 and also a separate video card.......

New Music + BD/DVD/divx build
I'm defining a new build. The computer will be used 75% for music playback (from digital out to a highend dac). I noticed that i could put a few more components and do also blu-ray playback. I'd like some input in particular on the video playback part, which will not be limited to BD, but also DVD (...

Hiya, I'm considering this case because the CW03 is too expensive and has poorer cooling. And i need place for 6 HDDs. I wonder which cooler can be installed on the cpu. Height max is 16cm. I would pick the OCZ Vendetta that is the best with a slow fan such as nexus. I wonder the size. The TR ultima...

This is the case that I have chosen for my htpc.
Unfortunately it uses 80mm fans.
Besides replacing all of them with Nexus, what else is suggested to improve cooling and keep it quiet?
I was thinking at a mATX mainboard...

Annoying that there seem to be no pics of the case interior available. http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_photo.php?pno=cw03&area=usa Exactly! Hopefully some review will come (hint, hint!) that'll show the interior well. If you can find a way to suspend the drives and augment case cooling wit...

It would be very helpful if you could mount a 120mm fan on the side vent like the NSK2400. I don't think quiet 80mm fans will move much air. Otherwise, it depends on what you're going to put in it. How many drives? What video card? What gpu and cpu coolers? My configuration didn't change much respe...

http://silverstonetek.com/products/p_contents.php?pno=cw03&area=usa What do you think of this case? I hate that they use 80mm fans, though, I'll need to replace em all. Thanks for the added explanation. I was not getting that before, let me see if I have it now. So, if I might paraphrase, you are looking for a power supply where either the fan will not need to turn on at 200Watts, or if all that is available will turn on the fan, then you want as quiet as possible...

Why do you say the 380W looks on the low side, then say you only need 200? The Seasonic is probably at about it's peak efficiency at about 250, and going to a bigger supply will only put you lower on the efficiency curve. I think for low noise level, great efficiency, and great voltage regulation, ...

Deciding on the PSU for my HTPC
Hello folks, I changed my original configuration adding more power and so the originally planned seasonic s12ii-380W is a bit on the low side. The system should use about 200W. I'm heading towards the seasonic s12ii 430W, even if it's not tested here. The Corsair vx450, has that annoying baffle that...

Tom tested the GP as well, but he "forgot" to measure the drive noise, LOLGoldmember wrote: The GreenPower seems to be the right choice for your HTPC for the reasons you mentioned. Good luck.
The temperature is very low which is great btw.

I preferred dbPower Amp with Flac plug in and accurip. EAC was such a pain to work with I gave up when I found a better option. Definitely FLAC is way better than MP3 for a good audio system. If that Shuttle is already bought...I guess USB is the option. To me audio is the #1 priority, really.so a P...

The music is mostly MP3 sampled at 320 kHz, but I'm working on implementing FLAC. Unfortunately, FLAC is a lot of work, I have to re-rip my CDs in WAV format, then encode them with FLAC, delete the waves, and seperate them so I still have the MP3s. (I might be missing something here) Yes, get EAC, ...

Uhm... M-Audio also makes high-quality speakers (studio monitors). Are you sure you aren't confusing them with someone else? Absolutely not. I listened to the 5", 6" and 8" tweeters monitors in a shop with a studio mixer source. Their sound was dull, dirty and unpleasant. M-audio monitors are defin...
