Funny enough, Panaflo isn't better than Vantec. (which I do use). Combined with the fact you really can't get RPM sensing one easily... Papst looks awfully good but the price is somewhat inhibitive -_-;

Antec Truepower is decently quiet. However, It is very susceptible to temperature compared to say, seasonic or zalman. Having 2 fans do make it a little louder (not noticebly so in 3 ft if ambient temp of case is less than 27c). First thing I would do to check with any PS that is loud & temp control...

Some Zalman 300 series are "unstable"
Actually, they have problem with EFI circuit or component that causes hi frequency noise. Which they acknoweldged 1/30/03 in Korean and in process of replacing. I don't know how they will deal with it in US market though. (It is on their korean webpage for Korean customers though) I would logically ...

It can be made decently quiet. 1) PSU fan can be changed (adda, etc) 2) 80mm fan can be changed. 3) Noise damping can be applied. 4) Cutting the grill has profound effect on sound on these (wire instead of stamped) 5) slow down the graphics fan. Air flow seems quite decent. I've had it for about 2 m...

Validity of reverse mounting hdd.
Some have seen it decreasing temperature in monitoring software as well as external probe. However, I have suspicion that this might be a bad thing to do... We keep mentioning about how HDD is much warmer at top plate compared to bottom. You rarely see a HDD with plastic top as there is usually alum...

For my untrained ear, I can discern the sound difference up to 6 ft at middle of night. After that, it is a wash. (keep in mind my computer is extremely silent now exception of HDD) If there is any ambient noise (right now there really isn't as I can hear the wall mounted electric clock tickling 10f...

I would create 2 heatsink in front and back of peltier element. The cooler one will go in path of air intake while the hotter one will be vented outside from a fan. (keep in mind as the hot side gets hotter, the temp in cooler side increases as well in peltier element) However, it might not look qui...

I got enermax UC-A3Fatr2 today (2 fan controller/2 temp sensor with monitor alarm which can be set by you as well as being 3.5" bay fit!) I will test it out tonight and let you guys know how it turns out to be. Here is my initial review: The unit doesn't have the luxury look of Vantec but has purpo...

Some DIY... you can add additional resistor inbetween fan and fan controller wire (not on ground though) to further adjust the voltage. I would meaure the resistance of fan first for quick guess work. seems like 25-50 ohm is right on target for this application to half the voltage across (it never i...

I've had very good luck with my IBM 60GXPs in a RAID-0 set, but of course you can't find those anymore. What I'm really interested in is how bad is the performance with the RAIDed cuda's? I see that you are running cuda IVs, does anyone have any experience with cuda Vs and RAID-0? Articles to point...

Problem with Seagate Barracudas...
Silent? Sure... Performer? Nope... In single drive comparison with WD... it fares all right... but when raid 0'd.... I actually LOSE performance -_-; (I didn't know cuda's are not good at raiding -_0) I plan to sell this 1 week old 80GB IVs as soon as I get the raid running with WD or something else...

If you don't mind the void of warranty I would recommend getting Antec true power and modding it (put additional resistance in fan control). Even quieter than Zalman at that point and you know there is decent cooling going on (2 fans) as well as surety of having nice power output. Its the route I we...

Why not both?
I should have thought about it earlier but why not use both? Dynamet is great at killing the vibration (low freq) Paxmate is great at killing the high freq noise The order would be dynamet first than paxmate (dynamet will have aluminum which would not be hard to install paxmate on top of it). Should...

Recommedation for fan cotrols.
I am looking forward to get a fan control unit that doesn't emit extra noise. I got Vantec fan control (the one with 4 fan controls) and guess what, 1) One of the knob doesn't work (constant 7.4v) 2) Coil buzzing sound is louder than my quieted PC -_-; The only thing is that I love the look of unit....

I'd like some suggestions on my quiet & cool project.
I've recently rigged up my new computer and would like some ideas & comments on what can be improved. (as well as few tips I found along the line). My goal: best system my budget allows while quiet & cool. 1) Case: Cooler Master ATC-201 - It has 4 fans in case which I figured would be good enough co...
