Re: Fan Roundup #6: Scythe, Noiseblocker, Antec, Nexus, Ther

Sweet! These don't come often enough. Now off to finish reading. =P --- The Noiseblockers certainly seem the most well-rounded? for the silent enthusiast, though they're prob too expensive for me. One of the reasons I buy mostly Scythe is because of their prices, cheapest of the bunch always for me....

Another product trying to capitalize on this niche, that ends up sacrificing too much. Should be fine for POS machine. I've always wondered about these though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856119050 Great price, E-350. Seems to overheat, but some are drilling holes in the ca...

Re: Asus P8Z77-V Pro: Xpert Fan Control for LGA1155

Great! Thanks for this, was looking forward to some coverage on the new features. I can't help but think how precise the control can be outside the OS level though, say if I weren't running Windows? =P. Do you basically only lose the dynamic calibration of the specific fans? Or are you strictly limi...

Not really worth the price as per usual Noctua solutions heh. Ah, and I remember my trusty XP-120, still had it up until a couple years ago, had the LGA775 adapter.

Nothing too new or exciting =P. I would love to buy these though, just wish they weren't so expensive, these things are tiny after all. Actually, I don't know that I would. Seeing as I hide all my media devices, they all stream via the server. Which means I don't need to have the absolute quietest, ...

I'm looking at some of Asus' new features in the upcoming motherboards, I'm really interested in the advanced fan control options, maybe SPCR can cover that extensively ;-). Re: Corsair Obsidian 550D Quiet Mid-Tower Case

I've been eyeing Corsair's build quality for quite some time. It definitely looks top notch. The only thing that ever holds me back is that it's too focused on the Gamers/Extreme segment. Spacious ATX cases these days just are too big for me. I'd love for them to build more towards the average user,...

True, once nvidia releases their newer cards, these should come down in price. I too am disappointed in the 7K series pricing, but hey, they're being stingy because they can. So oh well, competition is what drives prices down. Maybe then this would be changed to an Editor's Choice =P. I myself find ...

Re: Seeking Insight on Failed Pico-PSU Build =/

Well, to add to the mystery, I re-connected the ATX PSU and it won't POST now either lol. Ah. It doesn't immediately shut off like it does with the PicoPSU, the fan stays on, but there is no video output. This, after countless times using the ATX PSU to set it up the OS/apps, and then even going bac...

Re: Seeking Insight on Failed Pico-PSU Build =/

I'm thinking you didn't use the 12V P4 adapter when testing with the full sized ATX PSU? That's the only variable I could imagine exists now between the power supplies. If you could test that and it makes no difference, then I think the 120W adapter isn't working correctly. Are you suggesting it's ...

Seeking Insight on Failed Pico-PSU Build =/

So I've given up on this build, but it makes no sense to me as to why it isn't working. Aside from assuming it *should* work from many people's similar builds, there is clearly something else that I'm missing here. I am now only really seeking to understand the problem, so it can possibly help me in...

PicoPSU 80W Enough to drive i3-2105 and ITX H61 board?

Looking to get a quick confirmation that this would be enough to drive the system.
It is a Gigabyte H61 ITX board, the Intel i3 2105. The rest of the system is a 2.5" 7200rpm drive, and a single stick of 4GB Ram.

Re: Fractal Design Define Mini MicroATX Tower

Gotta agree on the relatively huge cases for m-ATX. I too have the P150 and would still say this case has only a few things better than it, while supporting full sized ATX boards. Though I don't think I'd mind as much. I consider the extra space as a sacrifice for the other neat features such as the...

Re: Fractal Design Define Mini MicroATX Tower

Wow, finally more competition in the m-ATX space. I gotta agree m-ATX should be more common that it is, all while being able to be made at lower costs =). This Define case looks solid, I think I would pick it over a P180 mini for well-roundedness, that is if I were starting a new Desktop build heh.

Looks like a great system. The mini p180 is a proven design, just wish you it was still available, I'd probably still pick it over that sweet new Silverstone mATX case. They did exactly what I'd do too, cover the top, add a fan for the graphics card =).

I don't think the size difference is all that much, or at least not as apparent from just glancing at it. Same goes for calling it outdated design. I give it props for the possibility of positive air pressure, as well as the outward facing PSU intake. It's a functional case, with no frills. I think ...

no need for structural integrity? Ok. Would a large CPU hsf still get in the way of a PSU removal? Seeing as the PSU is somewhat seated above?

Besides the structural integrity, I only really see one problem (more like feature they didn't exploit for the sake of modularity/efficient design), and it seems unlike them as it's something you see so often now. Re: SilverStone Temjin TJ08-E: MicroATX Evolved

Lastly, as soon as I saw that CPU HS/F support leg, I thought, why didn't they do the same for the graphics card? It always bugs me how long cards droop. I think they could easily add one right above the HDD cage, which is ideal since that's where a long card would be hanging over. They did. See pa...
