I calibrated my 3000+ winchester and get load temps of 40°C with the 7000alcu fan at 3V (ambient temperature was 20°), and seeing as how the xp120 is superior to the 7000alcu i find those temps very suspect. (I have an MSI RS480M2-IL, 2x512 twinmos pc3200, and a winchester 3000+)

You'll need som slght ambient airflow around it, prefferably assisted with some low-flow fan. Otherwise it gets really hot!

Use the stock backplate, it is much stronger than the one zalman gives you. use the screws that come with the black retention thingy, and attach it something like this:

Meh. Standard Overclockers site for making a quiet computer. They really tend to fail miserably. I would doubt that it is under 30-35db @ 1m (I seriuosly doubt their SLM readings, it is probably no good at so low sound pressure levels). Bad stuff: -SFF -Hardmounted Raptor *and* another WD (that is j...

I would say semi yes to question 2, you can indeed use a pot, but you must be sure that it will survive 200mA (or however much the fan takes at max and dd 25% for safety) of power, else you risk the pot burning up...

That looks like quite a decent setup. The only thing I would be worried about (assuming you're happy with the noise level) is the temperature of the harddisk (I keep mine in the 30-35°C range) when it is put in the foam. Just OOC (I am near to a Biltema too (Sweden)) how good is the foam and which f...

I have a S939 mATX board (MSI RS480M2-IL) and it is wonderfull. It uses the new SB400 chipset by ati and has good integrated graphics (5000 marks in 2001, which is enough for simple gaming) and everything else one would want (6 channel audio, firewire, 6x usb, tvout and so on and so forth). You don't need to remove the back panel to attach it, just remove the black bracket and reuse the new screws and tighten them untill they are at teh same posistion they would have been at had you used the brass standoffs. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v324/The_Lerneaen_Hydra/SPCR/no-zalman-brack...

if speedfan supports rpm adjusting on your fan and of course go with speedfan, only other benefit I ee with mbm is that you can label the temp such as "cpu" or "case" and "cpu fan" vs speedfan's "temp1" or "temp2" and "speed1" You can cahnge the names of sensors by clicking on them once in the sett...

The 90nm (winchester) cores run at 1ghz which is 1000/200=5, so it should be at 5x.

VGA -> TV is indeed expensive, but RGB scart is essentially VGA with a combined Horizontal and Vertical refresh. (Signal voltages are the same).

You also want to be careful that they can handle the power. Some only accept few hundred milliwatts, some take 3W - more than enough for most medium-low speed fans. (as far as I can remember - I've never tried using a low power pot to control fans directly) This doestn appear to be a direct-to-fan ...

Raid 0 will not give you much of a noticable speed up unless you run server-like applications (that require lots of files at random points on the disk). It would be better to go with 2x200gb or 1x200gb. See here: http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.html?i=2101 EDIT: I forgot the most important ...

Well the pusles are at exaclty 50hz. I have no idea what woudl make pulses at that frequncy, alhtough it seems probably that you live in europe and that it is somethign wrong before the AC-> DC conversion.

Yes that's correct.

Just to re-iterate:

Black (ground) connects to the case as usual
Red from the fan attaches to middle
Red from power connector attaches to either of the side prongs

You can switch the position of the red wires if you want to, it doesnt matter.
