It's called a package manager and a sane design. ie. Not Windows. Windows is pretty much unique in requiring a reboot for every single update . You did not use Windows in years I presume ? Just as others have said it Windows 7 does not need to reboot after every update. Only critical ones. And sure...

Meanwhile I don't have to reboot more than once every four or five months. i apologize in advance for sounding like i'm ragging on you :) but that is a pointless goal... there is absolutely nothing wrong with rebooting a server. Required reboots are not really a problem anymore, on Linux or on Windows. And who gives a shit anyway? ;) This is a non-issue if you ask me. They're a problem for me for a number of reasons. One is I lose my sample rate without the SPDIF source, which means no audio at all while one box is down. A...

Word of warning: If an EAX game crashes the card will be left looping the last fragment of audio. Simply close anything using it and disable and re-enable it in device manager to fix.

You have electrical problems then, Wibla. ;)

Coax is better than optical, IMO, because it's far more durable and has a greater range. You can run coax 20m easily if needed, TOSLINK maxes out at 6m (or 10m, depending on who you believe). It's expensive and delicate.

Creative's drivers (this includes Auzentech cards, especially seeing as the X-Fi's main issues are the firmware, which is identical afaik) are very, very iffy under any OS. The Xonar drivers aren't perfect (EAX support is limited and somewhat buggy, for example), but they're stable, and the hardware...
