Hint - there's no oil in Korea, Viet-Nam, Philippines, Grenada, Panama, Bosnia, Lebanon, or Afghanistan. Well, I didn't actually mention any of those countries, only the Middle East. In fact I don't think that it's only oil that brings the US into a conflict - it's anything that affects it's intere...

The idea that the US is at fault is preposterous. The mess in the Middle East was created by France and Britain who colonized the area and left it in chaos after WWII. Someone else seeing the world through stars and stripes tinted glasses! Actually, the Americans were calling the shots behind the s...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/robertpeston/2010/06/will_bp_be_forced_out_of_the_u.html This comment on the above article pretty much sums up my feelings - This is without doubt a disaster unfolding in the gulf, regarding the oil spill, the media seems to of forgotten that 11 lives were lo...

There is evidence that the BOP was not properly maintained by British Petroleum, Where? Do you have a link? I thought that it was supposition at this point in time. If you don't have evidence you shouldn't be making allegations against BP. BOP's can fail for reasons other than lack of maintenance. ...

4. It appears (although not proven conclusively yet) that the blowout preventer failed to work because of improper maintenance, and British Petroluem is responsbile for this. This article suggests the cause is more complex and probably a combination of casing/cement job failure together with BOP fa...

31 years and no real improvement. It's 8 mins of video, well worth watching. The well that blew out 31 years ago was drilled in only 150' of water. No problems in getting divers to that depth and yet they still couldn't kill it. I think some of you are failing to appreciate the magnitude of the for...

Re: Need a few opinions on Plasma TV market
Question 1: Is it a good deal? Any experience with Panasonic TVs, or this TV in particular? I've been buying Panasonic TV's/VHS/DVD stuff for 25 years and never had a complaint. Their high end TV's consistently get excellent reviews and their mainstream stuff is highly regarded in it's price range....

We do this because we do not like to see civilians die. At the same time, we accept the fact that it happens, but no other nation takes the care we take. I suspect that it is a fear of the media and public opinion that matters most to your politicians. War is the instrument one nation uses to exert...

Sadly from our perspective here in Blighty, BP seems to be getting all the blame for this. Granted they were the operating company but the drilling rig was owned and crewed by Transocean - American owned, while the company responsible for cementing was Halliburton, also American owned. It is a possi...

I have a Dell latitude that is actually nosier than the desktop I've recently put together. I suppose one reason is that my ears are much closer to it as the desktop is on the floor beside my desk. Re: Life Sucks
Summary: We (all life) are simply the product of a crude, deterministic universe. Life exists for no other purpose than to consume (/ satisfy desire) and reproduce - a useless (in and of itself) purpose. Just because this is the way nature is, doesn't make it acceptable or good. If life were to bec...

A relief well is supposed to intersect the original well just above the reservoir, cement is then injected into the original well to plug it. It's pretty difficult to do, intersecting a 7" diameter steel pipe at depths in excess of 10,000' Blow outs are a known hazard of oil well drilling - numerous...

CPU Fan: Asus Silent Square Pro. I configured it with Speedfan so it goes up or down depending on the temp. Now Speedfan marks 47º at 1875 RPM That temperature seems to be very high for that fan speed. Is that degrees celsius? Computer idling or under load test? What's the ambient temperature? Idl...

Exactly, BZ-502 is the ideal product if all you need is fan. I put one of these into a Lian Li PC- 07+ just a few days ago. It looks good, only problem was that it was slightly too small (for this particular case anyway) and I had to use small washers as spacers between it and the sides of the bays...
