Thanks Marci for your patience in explaining. This is what had me going (you wrote about the 1 x PA160 setup): It would do the job with best performance at lowest possible noise levels. Bigger rads will do it better, but use more fans, therefore more noise. The way I see this we are comparing apples...

If PA160 with 1x 7v'd M1A performs just behind a PA120.2 with 2x 7v'd M1As, then the same will apply no matter what the fan... as long as for the comparison, both rads use the SAME fan. ie: PA160 with 1x Nexus at 7v will perform just behind PA120.2 with 2x Nexus at 7v. PA160 with 1x SilenX @ 12v wi...

The bluetooth edition MX5000 keyboard + laser mouse kicks serious ass. Very nice feel for typing, rather quiet too. The mouse received rave reviews eveywhere, even for gaming. Quite esthetic set too, in my eyes. One problem is that the bluetooth connection can become unstable and lose its connection...

As usual, we end up in a debate what can be considered quiet :-) I'm not pretending to set the standards here and I certainly wouldn't argue that Marci's got it wrong or anything. But, in my book, a 7V panaflo M1A is not even close to quiet, especially not when mounted on a rad. And remember: everyt...

Well, in my w/c machine I use two rads with 4412s normally @ 3.3 volts. Soft-mounted with shrouds they still make much more noise than my dads whole setup. The fins of the radiators add to the whoosh. Having just one 120 rad is not feasible at all. The reserator of course solves this but pumps can b...

You betcha. Even quieter if you go with only 3 Nexus 120: One in back, one on CPU and one blowing in on a passive GPU block from the case front through a simple duct. Add a T-balancer (w. attenuators), a HDD box and sound isolate the case - voila! Couple of months ago I built a set like that, for my...

For those of you still pondering: don't go W/C! Sooner or later it will come back to haunt you at a time when your new-found interest of silence-tinkering has lost its appeal. My w/c system always has a surprise up it's sleeves when I can't find the time to mend it, whereas all the (extremely quiet)...

I concur the A09XL is very quiet! According to know-it-alls on many different sites the only differnce between the retail A09 and the oem 109 is: A09 has a fanzier bezel A09 has a honeycomb shell supposed to dampen vibrations Different firmware Guess the same applies to the newer models. Pioneer sai...

The completely closed enclosure is fully equipped with multi frequency noise absorption material preventing any noise to escape from the unit. The Drive-A-Way is suitable for 3.5" and 2.5" h...

How to get a temp reading for GF6600?
Need it to calibrate my T-balancer diode. But how can I get an internal temp reading from my graphics? Asus probe only reads MB and CPU.

Re: on promoting the exchange of real information
an outsider reading this thread would have to be amazed at the credence given to flow rates and temperatures, and the immediate skepticism with which db(A) 'values' are met There are numerous sites out there discussing flow and general o/c. Turning SPCR into yet another one would be horrific. Let's...

Never measured the flow. It was such an obvious improvement, easily seen in my reservoir. BOOM! This is a real problem, and doesn't look good after your earlier "I empirically know the flow from a 1048 (peterson's leaning towards a 1048 right?) will in fact increase in both loops compared to the si...

Problem is, most good CPU blocks are more equivalent than the equivalent GPU blocks, so unless you fudge it a bit you'll end up cooling the CPU rather badly. Did you mean "more restrictive than"? Use clamps to direct flow if you must but try to engineer it from the outset so the water flows where i...

You said it better than me, bobkoure. Flow in each of the two loops superseed the flow in the single original loop. Total flow is more than double. I use 12/16 mm (12 mm inner diameter) aquarium tubing (= 0.4624/0.6299 inches, quite bigger than 3/8 ID) and there are no sharp corners or anything. I w...

Don't split the flow. You would have better flow in the circuit as a whole, but it would effectively halve the flow through each block (if they offer the same resistance). Sounds reasonable, no? In fact it doesn't. Pumps manage big flows but poor head. Did you even follow up the link I presented ab...

Well, Josh, I'd say you'll do fine with the plan you have. Under 30 dB should be no match, except perhaps for that PSU you've chosen. My recommendation to you, good for both silencing and overclocking, is to sqeeze in as big radiator area as possible. Watercooling's only advantage is the ability to ...

. Otherwise you can probably forget about finally beating that notorious Panaflo @ 5V. erm... that was a reference to damping Eheim pump vibrations. They are relatively low frequency, large amplitude (A.K.A. "shaking"). Just put the pump on a thick foam rubber pad and let it shake a bit. The vibrat...

Of course your're right. It all comes downs to your standards. But when saying a pump is quiet it sort of assumes it's quiet compared to other pumps. And compared to the favoured pumps here at SPCR, the standard size Eheims, it's very noisy. A very good pump in every other respect! I use both pumps ...

I second most of bobkoures tips. Athough I have to disagree with bobkoure on this one: The vibrations are pretty easy to damp. Put the pump on a foam rubber mat and be sure to use the most flexible tubing you can find leading to/from the pump to reduce mechanical transmission through that. Perhaps h...
