I've looked into this. The snag is that powering from a 12V SLA is not a particularly good idea as you can't guarantee the voltage. The solution is to use two giving you an input voltage of 24V and one of the PicoPSU family that allows you to use 12-24V input. SLA is a pretty good battery choice fo...

Since I power an A7n8x from a 300W Zen without problems, the two are not entirely incompatible, so to ask the obvious question, have you tried the Zen in another system?

IIRC UDF doesn't deal with sparing itself -that is performed by the drive (there was a discussion on the UDF refelector about using UDF on flash a while back). I think it does some clever things with the bitmap. I wouldn't like to swear to any of the above, because a) it was a while ago b) I wasn't ...

The business edition of the Bad Axe 1 & 2 (which is almost impossible to get hold of in the UK, which is a pity) does not have heatsinks on mosfets. Suggests to me that they do not get too hot.

Averages

Am I the only person who gets really annoyed when someone asks for an "average" usually wanting an arithmetic mean? (this brought to mind today by one of the questions in the IQ test) I mean I usually want someone to calculate the range of different aircraft, but when I want that I don't ask them to...

I dont have any problem with Vista, but the customer is only after Word and Excel, but they are not a Student or Teacher, so they are going to have to spend the extra £30 for the "Basic" vers...

I was reading that Word-07 is in a different file format? If you send that to someone with Office-2003, will they be able to open it? And vice versa? There is a new format, but it is incredibly easy to tame it to using the old one (a distinct lack of nag screens telling you that the new one is so m...

I understand that carbon composites are actually pretty good at blocking RF frequencies. However, Ultra aren't selling this as a system, so won't have had to pass all (any?) of the RF tests (the same reason why it took a long time before you could buy windowed prebuilt systems from a manufacturer -a...

I think we need to be very careful in attempting to extrapolate the results of the 300W model to the 400W one -in all the pictures I have seen the 400W Zen has an exposed heatsink, which makes it likely that this is a quite different electrical design, as the heatsinks in the 300W model beneath the ...

My experience is that Seagate USB drives (both the 2.5 and 3.5" variants) spin down -although whether this is due to windows spin down times, or something in the drives I don't know -I've never tested it. The Seagate 2.5" USB drives power from almost all standard compliant USB ports, the maximum cur...

Unless I'm much mistaken, most current DVD drives are only capable of ATA-33 (or whatever it's actually called) whereas the HD will be capable of ATA-100. Quite possibly what the error message actually means is that a HD is running on ATA-33 (which would typically be caused by use of a 40 conductor ...
