My 4850 would run absolutely fanless w/o any problems. I just installed a Scythe S-Flex 500rpm for peace of mind, and it keeps my 4850 under 50~55°C (hot days) when playing Crysis. To conclude, it's OK to run the S1 fanless on the 4850. But if you add any 120mm fan, be it as slow as it gets, you ge...

You could always send it in for calibration, that usually helps :) Cheers for the advice. I emailed Sigma and they got straight back to me saying just to send it in. Added bonus is I'll get it back before I go on holiday :) Don't be too sure about that - mine took over eight weeks to calibrate. In ...

I was very happy with my MSI 8600GTS, until I replaced it with an Accelero S1-modded Radeon 4850. There's multiple passive versions of this card, some have the cooler under the PCB (like the Gigabyte) and some above (like the MSI). Which one to choose is up to you and depending on your case airflow....

I have no problems whatsoever with the 1283 cooling my Q9300 using the push-pins. Temps are absolutely ok in the 40s, so as long as you don't intend to overclock, I wouldn't bother with the bolt-through kit.

No. We want pictures from the dark side of the moon, aka. a photo from the other side of the case opened where we can see your cabling mess (if any). Back side of the mainboard. Not a good example. Intel had good competition before the P4 in the K6s and later the Athlons. Netburst was an "innovative" idea to engage the enemy: all hail to the almighty clockspeed. Throughout most of the P4's life span, AMD had the better cpus. No dominance here. The best example for lack of ...

I'd point out that it's unlikely that 20% switched as the bigger percentages are in dollars not customers but the quote is interesting nonetheless. It's also probably worth mentioning that ATI/AMD isn't the only other possible recipient of those sales. Well, I think for losses in discrete graphics ...

Unspecific hardware errors tend to be difficult to diagnose. You might also have temperature probl...

Yeah. Let's see what will come. Hopefully Nvidia can cope with that well, because if not it would leave AMD more or less alone in the field. I have to say that I'm more than happy that AMD is back up in competition. What's happening when dominant companies become uninventive could be seen in the Net...

I've just stumbled across something related with that: Link to heise.de Basically, for the non-German speaking crowd here, it's about Nvidia having to write off 200M$ for estimated warranty replacements due to poor thermal and mechanical design of the die-PCB-connections which can lead to premature ...

Btw., instead of using a X2-solution I would prefer Crossfire or SLI due to the ability to fit aftermarket coolers like the Accelero S1 to the individual cards. With these dual-chip cards, you don't have this possibility.

Yes, that's serious overkill. Get something smaller, like a Seasonic M12II-430, a Corsair VX450 or an Antec NeoHE 430.

Btw. I'm running a Q9300, Radeon 4850, two harddrive system on the same mainboard (except the revision - yours is 1, mine is 3.3) that you have off a Seasonic S12II-430.

Well, on the CPU it was obvious to use AS5 instead of the white stuff. On the GPU, I first used the preapplied stuff, but it was late in the evening and somehow I got some dust into the thermal compound - so I wiped everything off and also used AS5 there. The results with the S1 and the S-Flex 500 a...

Well, I originally wanted to route the main power cable behind the mainboard tray - but it wasn't possible due to the fact that it was too thick. Which thermal [goop] to use?

Hi,

today I'm going to install my new Radeon 4850 w/ Accelero S1. When it comes to the choice of TIM, I've got three options:

1) using the preapplied stuff by Arctic Cooling
2) AS5
3) generic white goof, leftover from the last computer upgrade

What would you do?

Well, let's see what the PPD will look like. Strangely, the machines only show between 50 and 70% CPU usage, but the FAH logs look good.
