I also just got a 20 inch Intel iMac from Amazon.com. My initial impressions concur with those of aviavi: - first and most noticeable thing is the fan in the lower left corner (facing the screen). There is a slightly rough whir and I can detect a little bit of bearing noise (sounds almost like a win...

I think they use several different hard drives, but this Maxtor is one of them:

I've been doing some research on the 17 inch Intel iMac (thinking about getting one for my dad for video editing) and found this about it's hard drive: Apple Computer's 1.83GHz iMac Core Duo is the first desktop system to be based on an Intel-manufactured microprocessor carries and carries a Bill of...

Does it still have a Seagate hard drive in it?

And how quiet is it? (idle noise, vibration, seeks)

Those references to 7200 rpm drives were apparently a mistake.

They were supposedly taken down.

I believe correct speed is 5400 rpm.

EDIT: I copied that photo then zoomed it full screen. It says 5400.2, though I can't tell whether it's 60 GB or 80 GB.

Anyone know who makes the HDD in the new Mac Mini?

http://www.apple.com/macmini/

Particularly interested in the 80 GB version (manufacturer and actual model number).

Also, were the Mac Minis completely fanless in the past (i.e. only source of noise, if the optical drive isn't spinning, is the notebook hard drive)?

I am trying to localize the the very high pitched sound better and I think it is coming from the Seasonic psu, from the left side (somewhere behind the power plug inlet). Pitch always seems to be the same and doesn't vary with load (idle or Prime95). Also tried disconnecting two of my three optical ...

Does my Seasonic Super Tornado 300 have coil whine?

I am trying to figure out the source of this very high pitched, e-e-e-e sound (kinda sounds like very high pitched hard drive whine also, but I onlyhave a Samsung SP1614c with a Nidec motor). I have systematically transiently stopped each of the fans in my system, but this didn't make any difference...

Does Seasonic Super Tornado 300 fan swap require soldering?

I have a Seasonic Super Tornado 300 psu which emits a low level, but rather annoying high pitched whine. I don't think it is coil whine because I get the same noise in two completely different computers. If I want to replace the 120 mm fan, will I have to desolder and solder the fan connector or is ...

For me, my Antec Sonata I case would just heat up under any load with a single exhaust fan at 5V.

Adding a second, front, undervolted fan seemed to give me more "headroom" when the system was put under load (single fan needed to be at 7V minimum).

Hi guys:

Is the only valid criticism of the SP2514N that it's seeks are loud? (i.e. everything else is on par with the old Nidec motored P80 series?)

Also, are these seeks high pitched, scratching noises or just loud, full bodied thunks?

I saw a dremel clone rotary tool made by GMC at Lowe's for $25 (included some accessories). Rated rpm was 8000 - 20000, I think.
