My understanding is that C's are 800 fsb ht Northwoods, E's are 800 fsb ht Prescotts and A's are 533 fsb no ht Prescotts. Note that the Intel site doesn't list the 2.4A while they do list the 2.8A. Anyway, the 2.4A that I have is 533 fsb, no ht, 1mb cache and is a Prescott. Really. Confirmed by CPU-...

Interesting tidbit of info - got a 2.6C today and it was folding the same wu a few seconds slower than the 2.4A on the same board, same everything. I was really surprised. :? Maybe there is something to that "Enhanced" hyperthreading in the prescotts after all. Nope, something else, as the 2.4A is ...

Using the same procedure above, on a Foxconn 865M01 matx board with P4 2.4A and a 80g/8mb 7200.7, I got 7 watt reduction when the hd was unplugged. Also, just dinking around with different psu's, I'm getting some dramatic power usage reduction - like 40 watts less while folding. My Kill A Watt is su...

EMIII is the bees' knees for monitoing what your boxes are doing. Somewhat of a pita to set up, but, once you get it going it's the greatest.

I'm not giving up on this. :) We're not talking about someone with a lot of electronic savvy, we're talking about someone that's never had a vom before. Someone that wants to know whether a wire is hot or a ground (always set your meter to check for volts, first!) Or, wants to know what that the vol...

...after all, multimeter will cralify it trodas brings up a good point. Anyone that dinks around with computers much really should have a multimeter (aka vom) in their bag of tricks. This one looks pretty good. There's a cheaper one also - about $16. Sears carries them also. An analog meter is prob...

We used to have just one file/app server at the office for both our time and billing, and professional app. Its name was "Server." A couple of years ago, I decided that it would make more sense to separate the 2 functions, so I added another machine for the professional app. Its name is "Servernew."...

My take on the reply is that this "patch" isn't intended for general distribution. Who knows what the reasoning is. My guess is that the patch is relatively new and Hitachi is trying to keep a lid on in, so to speak. Perhaps they don't want everyone to install it and/or start the uproar all over aga...

Ok, here's what I wrote Hitachi this a.m. "There's a utility floating around the internet that is said to eliminate the "meow" sound from the 7k250 series drives. Supposedly it is a firmware update. The file name is "DFT32-OEM-G-HDS7225-SATA-63A-4char.EXE" and it's 2.96 mb. You guys know about this?...

Actually, it's kind of a funny story. I bot the 2.8E "refurbished" from newegg for $155 with the Intel hsf. I was getting folding temps of about 65 to 70C and the folding performance was pretty much the same as my 2.8C which was running about 10 to 15C cooler. So, I found a 2.6C "refurbished" at new...

Yeah, I was kinda surprised at the juice sucked up by the hd also. Later today, I'll check out a 7200.7 drive. Shouldn't be a big difference? I've ordered a couple of high efficiency psu's (one from MikeC) to replace some of the dogs that I'm using now and am still thinking about getting a Zalman 30...

Pete, Sorry, I just rarely pay attention to the day to day variation in cpu temps. Most all of mine run in the hi 40's to low 50's, so, when they get to 57* C or so, I know something's wrong. :( Could be, tho, that p737 is a little harder to grind on, thus the slightly higher temps. Maybe. I'm getti...

"Stupidity usually gets its way." So far, this setup has produced 89 + 96 wus, machine id 1 and 2. I've used 3 different processors (2.4A, 2.8E and 2.8C) and 2 different motherboards (both #865 chipset) all running on the same hd, a Hitachi 160g sata. It has never aborted a wu. I know it's not suppo...

I'm really happy with my Seasonic -- I got it from Mike C (he had some pre fan rev versions). If the new A3 is as good, that might be the way to go. Compared to my Antec, draw at the plug went down about 30-40w (IIRC from around 220 to 180) measured with a WattsUp? (think killawatt). Dave Yeah, I w...

I'm curious as I'm thinking about getting 1 or 2 "more efficient" psu's. Rite now I'm looking at the Zalman 300a or b. I've got 3 7200.7 pata drives and I'm going to try and see what the current draw is whilst running - on one anyway. It would seem that a running drive, with no activity, would draw ...
