The P965 chipset, without any integrated graphics, should potentially consume less power than the other i965 chipsets. However, the difference is minimal (<2W) and insignificant to the point where the potential loss or gain may not be reflected between motherboards of different manufacture. I would ...

I'd just like to point out that AM2 and 939 are both K8, along with all 754, 1207 and 940 socket Athlon64, 64 FX, X2, and Turion processors. But it is worth mentioning that AMD is no longer producing 939 processors, with exception of the Athlon64 X2 4800+, and should be stopping right about...now. I...

Uh, that board supports SATA, therefor it supports eSATA. You just plug the eSATA cable into a SATA header and power cable. When a motherboard has eSATA, that means it has powered SATA plugs on the I/O panel. Edit: I can see how this is unclear. Let me rephrase... You plug your eSATA port into a SAT...

Now, I have built computers that were actually capable of drawing over six hundred watts, but they all used inefficient chipsets and ridongculous video cards. The practical upshot is, we need to know what else you've got in that box to guestimate its power needs.

If weight or dollars count, then aluminum it is.
Neither of those are important in the high-end heatsink market. Especially so when you're talking about an ingot the size of a matchbook.

With hardware like that, I'd have to endorse Vista, too. Yes, NVIDIA doesn't make the best Vista drivers, but that hardware is high-end to the point where you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in performance vs. XP.

38mm thick fans are mostly for servers; their designed to draw air past hot-swap cages and force it out through small, passive server heatsinks then through the PSU. I'd be surprised if you can find one that, even at its start voltage, will pass a quiet muster.

All 8800s are made by Foxconn and MSI. Other companies re-badge them, or pick better-binned cores then re-badge them, but they're all physically the same, no matter who sells them.

I'd recommend getting a P35 board from a board partner that isn't Intel. You'll save money, have more/better features, and generally better support and warranties. Gigabyte's a great company, I'd pick them. I also like the passive options in the HD 2000-series cards. Best overall video playback, too...

I did a little reading and it seems you want a motherboard with an AGP 1x/2x slot, or universal 1/2/4x or 1/2/4/8x slot. The Voodoo 5s need that 1x/2x lovin'. Those are really hard to find; mostly you'll only find AGP 4x/8x 1.5 & .8V motherboards. You're probably better off asking around to see if s...

The video playback quality of a 7600 is going to be pretty bad, about 77 out of 130 points using HQV. 8600s aren't much better, they got about 88 points across the board. ATIs HD 2600 and lower cards, on the other hand, all scored above a hundred, with the 2600 getting 128 points out of 130, and the...

Do you have a different motherboard to test the RAM in?

Is the memory registered or error-checking? If the motherboard doesn't support the features, it will only "see" half of it.
