If you're gaming, it seems pretty obvious that you'll be heating the case air. You need to move more air. Whether that's a fan on the graphics card, or a faster/additional exhaust fan is up to you. I'd lean toward more case fan, as they tend to be quieter and often enjoy longer lifespans. But YMMV. ...

I'm starting to warm to the silverstone cases.. Anyone have any insights to the differences between LC17 and LC20 in terms of cooling/acoustics? Internally they look *almost* identical, with a slightly different drive bay arrangements. The absence of the LCD display makes for a somewhat larger 'duc...

Its so much better to be after smart... That's why arm chair generals and sofa soldiers are type I can't stand. Is it an assumption by omission if I didn't say it, and you're making the assumption and ascribing it to me? In that case please do tell. What are your thoughts on the matter? Well, I prefer to place the responsibility for the Iraq war directly on the shoulders of the administration, and not some a...

Neil.... I don't ever remember anyone ever claiming that the government of Iraq was responsible for 9-11. It was a co-ordinated attack by a bunch of people who share a common religion that uses terrorism to advance it's causes. They do not come from a single country...you know that, everybody knows...

It's real easy to look back on a course of action, and criticize what was done, leading to the current state of affairs. The harder thing is to take the perfect course of action at the beginning.......rarely accomplished by anyone. GWB holds the distinction of having the highest voter approval rati...

I recently ran into this problem when my computer tried to come out of hibernate. It wouldn't boot for anything. I removed 2 of the 4 1 gig memory sticks, and it reported the checksum error. It then said that my saved session would be lost if I continued. Big deal I said as I continued. It booted ri...

Aristide, It is your lack of respect for others on here that I am reacting to. It's just a dumb bumper sticker..... advocating an anti-war philosophy that obviously won't work in all situations. I don't know anyone who thinks it would work in all situations. Unfortunately, there are too many who think 'war is the answer' to all too many situations, where it obviously is not. ...

I've had several problems with Speedfan and this board. Lack of fan control is the least of them. When watching SD cable TV with Speedfan running, the video can be unwatchable due to a regular freezing/lurching. Imagine someone hitting your pause button every few seconds for a 1/2 a second. Turning ...

I did 2 things to my L17. I installed 3 drives in a single cage. Then I turned it 90 degrees, set the cage on some soft foam and lashed it to the chassis with stretch magic. That gets you to 3 drives with a decent amount of physical isolation, and room for an HDD fan. I slid a 'floor to ceiling' pie...

I can't speak to that, but my hunch no. From what I've seen out there, Silverstone's LC17 is probably the most broadly accommodating 'HTPC' case. The advantage of this case is it supports full ATX, and the 6 HDD slots are divided into 2 cages. I can't say for sure whether it will fit the card you de...

I'm inclined to cut Antec some slack here. I doubt that most people ever give a moment's thought to what kind of fans they are using. The Tri-cools are reasonably quiet on low, and move boatloads of air on high. This covers all possible uses for their product. There's more to a quiet computer than a...

Welcome to S P C R I would suggest starting with the case, get yourself an Antec Solo, you will notice the difference straight away, and even with a 65W CPU you wont need a CPU fan on a Ninja (non-mini). I'm going to run this system fanless for the forseeable future. If there are any issues with it I'll let you know :-) I think you mean when . :P Seriously though. My set is 740p, so I can only comment that far. The onboard 780g plays Blu Ray without hiccup. The same goes for the AMD 2600XT, but to my eye the 780g has a slightly more appealing picture. I just put a pr of the 640's into an Antec Fusion media box. They are vaguely audible during boot up, but never enough to be a distraction. My guess is the CPU cooler is your primary culprit. Tightly spaced fins will make more of a whoosh noise than wider spaced ones. I had that cooler a while back and switching to the wider spaced Ninja was noticeable soundwise. Try stopping the CPU fan and see what it sounds like. I use a mini Ninja i...

Gore alone has placed himself as the figure-head of this "global-warming"/man-created climate change. Nobody elected him to that position. For whatever reason that view of the changing climate has become PC. For the most part, scientists who have to rely on grant money, have to follow PC, or lose t...

If you have $50 of wiggle room in your budget, look at the BE-2400. It's roughly the same in CPU power, but at a cooler 45 watts (+ $30). This CPU is easily, passively, cooled with a Mini Ninja (+ $20). If money is that tight, I'd skip the Alpine 7 and stick with the stock cooler. The Alpine 7 isn't...

spookmineer.....it's obvious that climate change is an on-going thing. But the "greenhouse" effect that Gore talks about, points directly to a warming effect caused by a decreasing ozone layer. The new NASA data tends to cast more doubt on Gore's theory. Now if you take that as a personal attack......
