60Hz flourescent hum.
I am not sensitive to CRT flicker, cannot tell refresh rates, have trouble with 3d posters in the mall. I have trouble finding things right in front of me, cannot follow the motion of a baseball. I think I was born half-blind, something wrong in my brain. I can read very quickly, I can see details, ...

Obsession.
Hiya, I've undergone similar obsession in silencing systems.. it is NEVER enough. I see your setup, it is similar to mine. (Barton 2500, SLK800 + Panaflo 92mm, Sonata, ZM80a on the video card, 120gb SP1203n, etc) Solution: Right now my case is ~16 feet away from my chair. Once weekend comes around I...

http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/articles.hwz?cid=10&aid=885 Came across this comparison between Samsung SP1614N (ATA133) and the SP1614C ("SATA"). The funny thing that stands out is the SATA version has slightly higher power requirements. ATA133 -- 8.6W (seek), 7.0W (idle), 0.5W (standby) SATA ...

8RDA3+ and SLK900
I had no trouble installing an SLK900 with the 8rda3+.
I chose this board because it was seemed highly popular (which is good when you do self-support, can find people with similar issues). It also has a passive northbridge.

WD120JB is loud!
Hiya there, system looks good but I hope you are sure that the WD will be silent in a rubber box/suspended. At the moment I have my own system two foot below me, to the left. I also have a ReplayTV (a personal VCR recorder) with a WD120 JB in there. I can hear that above the noise from my computer. ...

Where do I get aluminum plates? (NYC, NY)
Hi guys, I have been trying to find aluminum plates in the New York area (well, anywhere that will ship the darn things at a reasonable price is ok too). I have had no luck with home depot, all they have is thin plates. I was thinking roughly 1/2" thickness would be nice (any more and I could not fi...

Small, quiet PSU?
Do I really have to say it should be quiet hehe? I am building a tiny system with a EPIA-M9000, I was wondering if there are any nice small quiet PSUs I could use? I don't have much experience with small PSUs, the only one I have used was the one that came with a Shuttle SV25 (NOISY!!! 40mm fan runn...

Recommendations mini-itx motherboards, Via c3?
Hi, I am building a new ITX system after seeing those cute things at mini-itx.com I decided i would sacrifice one of these stuffed animals to the gods of quiet computing. My stated purpose is to build a DivX machine. Video: Integrated is fine, TV OUT is a must. CPU: I understand Eden platform (integ...

Via C3 and Shuttle SV25 barebone, fanless HSF
Hello, I wrote a reply to the article regarding the Chyang Fun note. This is my experience, I hope it helps you. I recently built a system with a shuttle SV25 barebones and a Via C3 1Ghz (Ezra i believe). I am running it fanless save for one 80mm case fan exhausting out the back. The shuttle is pret...
