There's not a great deal of clearance so I've temporarily put a 80mm Acoustifan Dustproof running at 5v on top of the heatsink. It's got some rubber spacers under the fan to make it more secure. With the fan added the graphics card temperatures were about the same as with the stock cooler: 40c at id...

Unfortunately the Thermalright HR-03 GPU cooler doesn't seem to be performing as well with the 7900GTX as I'd hoped. It's fine for 2D mode and games that aren't too graphically intensive. We were playing Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter co-op on the LAN yesterday however. There weren't any noticeable...

have you tried to dampen the LED? I have read about some different techniques, such as the sharpie method to make the LED less bright. Another technique I have read about is to take paper and cover the LED between the LED and the cover. This is supposedly a very good method to lessen the brightness...

I didn't use the rubber spacer for the GPU core. The four point mounting seemed secure enough without it. One thing to be careful of is to tighten the screws in the backplate thoroughly: If you don't they thread themselves back out when you fit the main thumbscrews. :( When you do the four thumbscre...

I tried it with a few games over the weekend. The load temperatures after 2-3 hours were in the 75-80c range which seems reasonable. The temperatures dropped fairly quickly after quitting also. It is mid October though. You could probably get it hotter with some intensive benchmarking but it seems f...

It sounds like a Matrox Triplehead2go adapter could be useful.
It would let you run 3 monitors from a single card:

The exhaust fan is a Scythe S-Flex SFF21D 800rpm fan fitted with softmounts. It's a lot quieter than a Antec tricool. :) http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/002/sflex_detail.html http://www.tinyland.org/PCStuff/C2DSoloRear.jpg The extra blanking plate was because there didn't seem to be much air p...

I'd had enough of the stock GF7900GTX cooler so replaced it with a Thermalright HR-03 passive cooler instead. The main issue I had with the Nvidia cooler wasn't that it's particularly noisy in itself. It just seemed to add to the overall noise from the PC. The PC now only has the single exhaust fan ...

My Thermalright HR-03 turned up today. :) It's fitted to a MSI GF7900GTX. It's surprisingly easy to fit (especially compared to other coolers such as the Thermaltake Schooner or Zalman ZM80D-HP): The hardest part is preparing the base of the heatsink because it's recessed under the fins. I didn't us...

Exactly how silent? What is your system composed of? My system is very quiet, with all fans on 5v and seasonic s12-430. But it's starting to bug me anyway, so maybe my noise tolerance is lower than average. With a single Scythe SFF21D 120mm 800rpm exhaust fan and the GF7900GTX fan running (PSU is a...

The Nvidia cooler is quite good for an active graphics card cooler. There's a distinctive "plasticky" whooshing noise through the duct on my MSI GF7900GTX though. One thing to look at is the end of the plastic ducting on the inside: On my card it could rattle against the metal heatsink. Some electri...

That's the 7900GT CO review.
The 7900GT KO as mentioned by cmthomson is a different card again.
eVGA currently have 10 different versions of the 7900GT card.

The eVGA 7900GT KO isn't the same as a standard 7900GT.
This article mentions that along with the higher clock speeds it also has a higher vcore resulting in a hotter card:
http://www.pureoverclock.com/article635-8.html
It looks like a good deal price/ performance wise though.

if I was in the market for a new Graphics card it would probably be a 7900GT, which I am certain could be cooled passively by the Condor, its power draw is similar to the 6800GT. I wouldnt exactly be thrilled by the GPU hitting 80+C, A GF7900GT card runs a lot cooler than the older GF6800GT models:...

If you're transporting the PC why not pad the inside of the case around the Scythe Ninja? You could use bubble wrap or polystyrene pieces to stop it moving. just remember to take it back out before turning the PC back on! The actual clip fitting is quite secure: There's no danger of the chip...

The Zalman adapter for GF6/7 cards is easy to fit. It's a molded plastic back plate that screws into the special front plate with four screws rather than the two you use with a standard ZM80D-HP install. It's a nice fitting method and guarantees a good seat onto the GPU core.:) I got mine from Quiet...

You can definitely fit a Thermaltake Schooner onto a GF6800GT. The pic in the SPCR thread is of a GF6800GT. :) Making it work reliably is the hard part. :( My Thermaltake Schooner is in a box upstairs. I went with a ZM80D-HP instead. It couldn't handle the card passively (temperatures just kept risi...

I really should have added that the Thermaltake Schooner only lasted 20-30 minutes before black screening on the GF6800GT card. This may have been due to shorting on the back of the card where it was a very tight fit between the components and the heatsink baseplate. It's got a plastic cover across ...

The advantage of the Schooner is that with a GF6800GT and stock heatsink (I got a Inno3d GF6800GT) you can keep the original ramsinks. Remember to reseat them with arctic silver though as my one came with no thermal paste on half the RAM! It's a bit of a nightmare to fit too: The trick is to do a dr...
