Mike / Devonavar,
frank's earlier post just brought up a thought. You mainly rely on the samples of different models provided by manufacturers.
Do you shy away from product samples given by affiliates for review consideration because they might expect a certain kind of a review in return?

Hi Jaganath, I somehow understood the OP was looking for fans with longer lifetime. OK, without knowing the details I also wonder how he/she can have so many failing fans. Although that depends on his system and fan age, I haven't got a clear view of the period of time all this was happening. And bl...

GHz, you got a small mistake :) Papst doesn't have FDB. There two non-ball long life bearings: Sintec sleeve bearing (Papst) or a REAL fluid dynamic bearing (Panaflo) thetoad30, the S-flex is not a fluid dynamic bearing. Yes they can call it that legally, but it's not like the Panaflo FDB. Panaflo h...

Hi, If we're throwing ideas out in the air, I would recommend a mylar bag over an anemometer. Anemometer's aren't really the best suitable choice for axial fans due to the lack of laminar airflow. About PWM... would be a nice to have different freq options on it, just to determine how the fan reacts...

Interesting discussions in a Nexus RPM thread :-) I had to go through mails from Dorothy and people alike to get enough examples and also data to address both issues. Hi Jaganath, your question about the venturi effect applying to PC fans? Yes it does apply, but you really can't answer it in a simpl...

Hi Jaganath, Silencio also operates on ebay.com these days, so you can also get Loonies through him into the north america. And hi Rusty, It's actually a bit shame that the quality people see is varying, the quality and precision of the manufacturing process is very good. And as you seem to know als...

The reputation of the Panaflos have gone down because almost all vendors, especially in north America, sell surplus/reject Panaflos. If you get them from a place that sells only new Panaflos, like Dorothy Bradbury, they are quite nice. I've been more than happy with mine. Nexus fans seem to be quiet...

That's a nice case and you've nicely executed the mods. Did you consider using the case in it's stock form, so that the PSU would handle just its own heat (doesn't the LC17 have its own side air intake for a bottom feeding PSU?) and use two low speed 80mm fans in the back to exhaust hot air? My brot...

I also remember reading that the Vantec uses PWM. I must say I'm puzzled. That's one serious clicking coming from your fans when inside the PSU. A good place to start reading would be SPCR fan/PSU stickies and cpemma's site here . Basicly the idea is to either solder the fan to fixed voltage inside ...

Hi Slayer, There are several aspects to your situation, I'll try to explain myself shortly: The fan clicks especially in the PSU. That would indicate it could be PWM causing the noise. It also clicks with an external fan controller, but do you know if it outputs "normal" voltage, or does it also use...

Hi Slayer, Finding fans that work with PWM... I would actually say you have to find PWM that works with fans. If you can control the PWM signal attributes you can make it work with most fans. That's why I mentioned the T-Balancer. With enough control over the PWM signal you can make it work with mos...

Jaganath, the inline resistor can also be built inside the hub, so it actually wouldn't have to be similar to the "voltage reduction cables". And yes I know why that is said about the Nexus, but I'm still very suspicious about cherry picking (atleast with my english I understand it as selecting from...

Hi, glad if it helped you. I personally disagree on the general (?) opinion about Nexus fans. I have no idea where the "cherry picking Yate Loons for Nexus" started. Nexus sells quite a large amount of fans, if there is actual labour going through them... Well, lets just say that it would be expensi...

Hi, You have the Sonata I with the original PSU? There's quite a few threads here on SPCR about opening up the front bezel, making a PSU duct etc. It all depends on your level of interest towards modding your current setup versus buying new components that are quiet. Personally I think Nexus fans ar...

Hello, I checked out the fan when the review came out. I didn't post this as I thought no one was interested: 80mm Coolink/Akasa/Noiseblocker seem to be the one and the same fan and made by YS tech. 120mm Coolink/Akasa/Noiseblocker seem to be the same fan, a wild guess it could be YS tech. Akasa Amb...

Stick type fan mounts aren't exactly a new invention. What makes the Sunbeam mounts so different from all the other rubber "stick type" fan mounts (is the material different when compared to i.e. NB slics), or are you guys forced to use them due to lack of selection in your country's computer shops?...

Hi, I'm not sure about the GLL and GLLL models, I think they are OEM models. That's possibly the reason why you can't find specs for them from the manufacturer website. I just sent an email asking if they are OEM, will post if I get confirmation. The E is indeed extended temperature range, rated at ...

Hi, IIRC that PSU is the Fortron FSP400-60PN(PF) (unless they have now made an updated version). If you want to control your PSU with the T-Balancer but don't want to mod the PSU yourself then this is probably an option. Well, it's the only option. But, the PSU model / design are a bit outdated (20-...

Hi,
you can use a 4-pin molex splitter like this:
http://www.sharkoon.com/flash/data/PROD ... nector.jpg
you should be able to pick them up from a local computer store.
or you could use a fan controller like this:
