Mike / Devonavar,

frank's earlier post just brought up a thought. You mainly rely on the samples of different models provided by manufacturers.

Do you shy away from product samples given by affiliates for review consideration because they might expect a certain kind of a review in return?

You can get D80SL12 through Silencio_777 as he has expanded to eBay.com (well you could order from him to the states earlierly, but...). He gives a SPCR discount and has cheap shipping.

Hi Jaganath, I somehow understood the OP was looking for fans with longer lifetime. OK, without knowing the details I also wonder how he/she can have so many failing fans. Although that depends on his system and fan age, I haven't got a clear view of the period of time all this was happening. And bl...

The explanation will not be short (sleeve, Papst Sintec, FDB, passive/active hydrodynamic etc), so I'll most likely send it to you as a PM.

GHz, you got a small mistake :) Papst doesn't have FDB. There two non-ball long life bearings: Sintec sleeve bearing (Papst) or a REAL fluid dynamic bearing (Panaflo) thetoad30, the S-flex is not a fluid dynamic bearing. Yes they can call it that legally, but it's not like the Panaflo FDB. Panaflo h...

Hi, If we're throwing ideas out in the air, I would recommend a mylar bag over an anemometer. Anemometer's aren't really the best suitable choice for axial fans due to the lack of laminar airflow. About PWM... would be a nice to have different freq options on it, just to determine how the fan reacts...

Good to know I'm posting something useful sometimes... Basicly RPM == voltage, but with powerful fans it flattens out at high rpm because the fan venturi and blades themselves contribute to stall.

Hi,

basicly RPM follows voltage.

(desired voltage / fan's rated voltage) * fan's top RPM = RPM at desired voltage.

A fan with a top speed of 1000RPM at 8V is:

(8V / 12V) * 1000RPM ==> 667RPM

EDIT: Off to bed, too many typos...

I really can't remember having similar problems with my two 4412F/2GL that I received from EBM-Papst (newer, blue stripe). I would personally recommend them, especially as a quiet long life 120mm*25mm fan.

The reputation of the Panaflos have gone down because almost all vendors, especially in north America, sell surplus/reject Panaflos. If you get them from a place that sells only new Panaflos, like Dorothy Bradbury, they are quite nice. I've been more than happy with mine. Nexus fans seem to be quiet...

That's a nice case and you've nicely executed the mods. Did you consider using the case in it's stock form, so that the PSU would handle just its own heat (doesn't the LC17 have its own side air intake for a bottom feeding PSU?) and use two low speed 80mm fans in the back to exhaust hot air? I also remember reading that the Vantec uses PWM. I must say I'm puzzled. That's one serious clicking coming from your fans when inside the PSU. A good place to start reading would be SPCR fan/PSU stickies and cpemma's site here . Basicly the idea is to either solder the fan to fixed voltage inside ...

Hi Slayer, There are several aspects to your situation, I'll try to explain myself shortly: The fan clicks especially in the PSU. That would indicate it could be PWM causing the noise. It also clicks with an external fan controller, but do you know if it outputs "normal" voltage, or does it also use...

Hi Slayer, Finding fans that work with PWM... I would actually say you have to find PWM that works with fans. If you can control the PWM signal attributes you can make it work with most fans. That's why I mentioned the T-Balancer. With enough control over the PWM signal you can make it work with mos...

Jaganath, the inline resistor can also be built inside the hub, so it actually wouldn't have to be similar to the "voltage reduction cables". you should be able to pick them up from a local computer store.
