Redo of copy.
Just read up on the SPCR P180 review and noticed the zap strap method of attaching the fan. I was thinking of something completely different. Along with a grommet, they look like a pretty sensible solution.

Just tried the foam tape but there wasn't enough contact area to hold the 120mm fan in place (for very long). Back to your vacuum tube idea :) Tube goes into the case and fan holes (7/32"?) A thin machine screw in the middle for rigidity Should expand it a bit too. Maybe a ¼" rubber washer to keep t...

I was only suggesting the ties would be the coupling, as if you'd used the weather stripping with metal screws.. be not nearly that bad. I just figured the vibration will take the stiffer path regardless of how many different types of materials you used. eg. I have some really sticky double sided fo...

It's all about decoupling. The weather stripping would probably absorb the vibration better than a tight zap strap. Has to be better than a metal screw.. that's for sure. Give it a go and see how it works out. I like the vacuum tubing idea. Been hunting all around locally for the 'rubber golf tee' t...

Just to clarify.. you're running fans with a power supply outside of the case, using the 4 pin molex connectors? First thing is to make sure you're using the right voltage. Molex connectors have red/black and yellow/black pairs. Red is 5volt, yellow is 12v. You would connect the 3pin fan red/black p...

ATI Tools has a 7 level ramp to adjust VGA fan speeds on supported cards (eg X800XL). A 3D app heat increase will trigger it, so you can set it to 100% fan on load and ramp it down to ~40% (quiet) at idle. It's like SpeedFan for the CPU, except ATI Tools isn't 'on/off' and doesn't have to run in the...

If the P150 is OK then the Sonata II might fit the bill. It's the one I have. Little more expensive but comes with a better PSU. Using the AGAC (air duct) is optional.

Computers at studios usually get stressed alot more than any gaming systems. You're right. Wasn't thinking. I do a lot of capture, video editing and encoding myself. Ususally only think about heat when I light up the video card. It adds a considerable amount too. spolitta's advice sounds good. Unli...

where'd you see $50? make sure its the actually T-balancer, not the analog temp monitor.... I think you're right. Looks like $75 for the basic kit. Low heat and sound.. what a wonderful combination :) If the computer will never see a game, a home theatre box (mATX) might be the way to go. Most important component would be the sound card(s), so find low power CPU, video card and PSU that'll handle your needs. That K'nex box was hilarious, yet od...

Sorry.. missed that part. Nice case !! It's also a 'heavy breather'. Obviously the airflow has to be directed over the HDD somehow. The options would be to tape off the existing upper bay covers (sort of defeats the purpose of the case) or rig up a fan. The NoVibes had a solution for that I believe....

Replacing the fan with a quieter one is quite easy.. here's a link. Applies to 92mm and thermistor controls but basically the same. Don't touch anything other than the fan leads. The capacitors hold a serious charge, even with the PSU unplugged !! http://www.silentpcreview.com/modules.php?op=modload...

I think everyone has their fingers crossed on that one :) As for the 1650.. click on the pics. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129150 P150 is actually pretty tall (midsize). Missing 5¼ bay makes for more HDD space. (and 2x92mm fans). Bit...

Looks good. You can also increase cooling by replacing the bay cover with a suitable piece of scouring pad. (the meshed, flat wafer kind) Your case fan should take care of the rest. Air will enter through the path of least resistance. Doubles as a dust filter too. Hope that's anti-static carpet ther...

Looks like a CPU specific fan controller. 6Watt should be good for a couple of fans in parallel. Read disclaimer at the bottom of the page

Wow.. was that price right.? Seems like a no brainer :) I have a noob question if you don't mind. Was wondering if you've ever seen one that would ramp a fan depending on the temp (like an inline thermistor), except it's programmable. My vid card can do it through software (7 temp levels, each havin...

If they look like golf tees, then I've had a good experience with those. Heard some are better than others though. You'll like the ones that don't break when you pull them (like gummy worms) Removing or cutting out the fan grills will help with turbulence.. but might make it easier to hear the fan. ...

Isn't the FanMate already getting it's voltage from the mobo fan header? If that's the case you'd have to find out the power limits of the FanMate.. and also the header. I wouldn't suspect they're very high though. If you're only monitoring the fan, a typical (eg) PSU uses the outside pins of the mo...

Sounds like something is shorting out.. maybe the mobo to the case? Check all your connections, especially ones you aren't using. Pull all your USB devices as a test too. I had a similar load on a 420W RaidMax with a 13A rail and didn't have any problems. It was starting to smell kind of hot though....
