Usable PCI slots with Raiser cards/right angle extenders

Post by exipnos » Sat Apr 10, 2004 3:09 pm

Hi there,

An full size MB has 5 PCI slots. The PCI standard says that a full height PCI card is 106mm. I want to build a very thin case (70-80mm high) but still use full height cards. One option is to use PCI raiser cards/right angle extenders. But if I user those can I find something that still allows me to use at least 4 pci slots but be considerable thinner then 106mm?

Do you have any good links for sourcing these raiser cards?

Cheers,

Exipnos.

^^^ They have the best risers (from my experience) though other companies may have different kinds.

A good question would be how big is your largest card? Most PCI Lan/Modem/Ect cards these days are about half height. Sound and video cards are usually near full height.

------

If your case is 80mm high you may be able to use a total of 2 PCI cards or 1 PCI and 1 AGP card.

I'm building a case that's 101mm tall, and there's only room for three angled cards. I got a 2U AGP riser as I don't use any PCI cards though.

------

In the end I would say that if you NEED 4 PCI slots your case will have to be large enough to take them without a riser.
