New 8rdavcore release - more boards supported?

Post by Linus » Fri Aug 27, 2004 2:29 pm

A new version of 8rdavcore has been released...0.8.8-dev1. In the words of the author on AOAForums:
hasw wrote:The changes are too much to tell (nearly 95% of code rewritten), but I think a main point is that the BIOS interface from NVidia is now supported (voltage changing and sensor values). This should help on boards which are not directly supported before.

- The AutoFSB function is also completely new, allows now more combinations.
- Display of hard-drive temperatures and health attributes possible
- Detects suspend/hibernation and applies save voltages (if selected)
- Many other small visible/invisible things...test it

As for all other versions before I have only tested this version on my 8RDA+ and not other boards.

I've uploaded the file also to AOA files, so download it there if you want to help me saving traffic
In case you didn't catch it, he implies that more nVidia boards may work now. 8)

Im going to give it a try but this program crashes XP with my Abit NF-7S v2 if I let AutoFSB change the FSB by more than about 25 mhz. I hear other people have the same issues.

I couldn't get it to work for anything but FSB adjustment on my Shuttle MN31N, but I think that's because the softVID pins aren't connected on my board (CPUMSR didn't work either). Hasw makes it sound like it should work on any nForce board that has such adjustments in the BIOS, though (the Shuttle has FSB controls in the BIOS, but nothing else).

Does a download link exist on that site?
I could not find any, and the pictures of the new version looks really nice, so I do like to try it out.

The download links are just beneath the supported motherboards list. Here's a direct link to the latest version:

If you try this out on your mostly-passive Overture box, please post some results. I've got an NF7-M coming to replace the Shuttle mobo, and it would be nice to know what to expect. :)

I ended up getting a Biostar M7NCG 400 (which is not on the compatibility list), and 8rdavcore works for FSB, Vcore, and several other adjustments! This may indicate that my first post was correct: 8rdavcore may work with any board with Vcore adjustments in the BIOS.

I fiddled with this program a while ago and noticed bit strange behaviour. When I first tried to boot into XP with 200 fsb, I ended constant hanging if I tried to go to lower than 170 fsb. Strangely enough, when I changed boot settings from BIOS to 166 fsb, program has worked flawlessly between 133-210 fsb, even if all other settings are exactly the same. Board I use is Abit NF7-S v.2.0.

Dobby - I've noticed that my computer doesn't like it when I adjust the FSB by more than ~25Mhz at a time, and sometimes I use intermediate steps with vcore too. Were you trying to go directly from 200 to 170?

I tried to lower fsb both stepwise and directly without success. Booting with 166 fsb allows me to jump between presets 133/1.35V,166/1.55V and 200/1.675V. I havent experienced any problems after the change and in fact current uptime is about week now. :)
