http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/oth ... t_pc/1.php pretty cool PC here, the guy is using Zalman ZM17Cu, a Thermaltake silent power supply, seagate b'cudda IV, and a Zalman CNPS 6000A, and his only airflow is from the Thermaltake powersupply that has two fans mounted in it, on a 2.8Ghz P4 his Geforce 4 Ti 4200 is running at 79c at full load though ouchy!

I find it interesting that his "silent" PC is 39.5 dbA.

I only wish my hearing was as bad as his!

Heck, I dunno. I turned off my PCs and the SPL meter still read 35dB(A).

the guy posted that he measured his decibel right up to the power supply.

I don't really trust any decibel ratings anymore since there is no standard distance of measurement.

He use Zalman 6500A (well he said 6000 .. thats impossible) WITHOUT fan... i bet that p4 should be using the throttle feature all the time..

And a GF4 Ti4200 OVERCLOKED with a Zalman ZM17?!? what the hell? and its totally stable?? i dont believe it...

And Zero case fans only the two of the psu....

I agree, I'd have to see it with me own eyes to believe it.

Here's why;

A 2.8Ghz P4 puts out 68.4W of heat.

I have an XP1900+ that puts out a max of 68W.

And I have a Zalman 6000.

My XP is undervolted by about 10%, and is running VCool. I'm not sure what my wattage ends up being after all that, but I'm guessing its substantially below the stock "Typical Power Dissipation" of 60.7W.

My proc wil run completely passively with the 6000Cu only when its at full idle. If I try it while doing real work on the machine, the temps quickly race past 65C.

So how is he doing it, stably , on a P4 2.8, while running full load benchmarks with almost no case ventilation?

I have no idea.

maybe he leaves the side panel off? *shrugs* that's the only way I could see it getting within reasonable limits

Yeah, this sounds quite interesting. I have attached a ZM17 into a GF4Ti4200, and with default clock speeds in a ventilated case (tried up to 12dB papst in+out @ 12V) I started getting visual errors after a couple of runs of 3DMark. I now run one papst @ 5.5v over the GF4 with a Zalman fan bracket and another papst @ 5.5v as a case exhaust and everything works fine.

I'd think that with good case ventilation (or perhaps undervolting) it would be feasible to run GF4Ti4200 fanless with a ZM17, but IMO overclocked & no ventilation sounds a bit (fried) fishy.
