Zalman ZM80A-HP + Card Keeper

Post by MGP » Fri Jan 31, 2003 6:22 pm

To my understanding, adding the ZM80A-HP to a video card like the gf4 ti4600 or radeon 9700 pro makes the card really heavy and could pose problems when transporting a PC with this step installed. just wondering, but does anyone know if installing a cardkeeper would help stabilize a zalman heatpipe video card during transportation.

yes, what is a card keeper?

I secured mine with a really long bolt in place of the normal one with a nut on the other side, and that seems to work.

Then again, maybe it just makes me feel beter.

btw, I've found that 2 80mm fans over a HP80 works very well

a cardkeeper is a black plastic device that fits over the side of a PCI or AGP card and keeps it "secure" in its slot. i heard of "cardkeepers" because PC companies like falcon northwest and alienware use them.

It's not really something you see much anymore, but in some old PCs I've seen there's a bar that goes in the case, over where the cards are. Small 'arms' with a U-shaped holding device thing go down and clamp onto the cards, stopping them moving. I have no idea what a cardkeeper is and your description unfortunately didn't help much, but these holdy arm things work.

here's a picture from the alienware site:

could be a nice addition for ZM80A-HP cooled cards, esp. for people that move their cases a lot.
