Silent wall clock?!

Post by Jordan » Tue Feb 13, 2007 6:10 pm

I have an entertainment room with a sofabed and at weekends and when I'm on holiday from work I sometimes use the sofabed to sleep in the entertainment room.

I have two systems in there, a modified Shuttle Zen and P180, which I've obviously taken every feasible step to quieten. I'm very happy with the systems and can happily sleep with either or both running, but if I lock in on my analogue clock on the wall I can't take my mind of it! You know how it goes...

I have to say I'm quite partial to an analogue wall clock but if I can't find a silent, attractive analogue clock then I'll settle for some kind of digital clock as long as it has a large display and is wall-mountable.

Any suggestions? I'm in the UK.

Here's the styling of the room:

Right now I have a silver clock (hanging above the TV), it goes OK with the room because of the silver AV equipment but I'd prefer something cream/brown. I've seen another analogue clock that fits the room completely but I'm worried it will be just as loud, or even worse, louder than my current one.

bulova made electric clocks that worked on a tuning fork I believe. it had continuous movement. there are some clocks that are obviously analog old ones that do not have quartz movment, the click click is not there. sometimes you can hear a buzz from them, but some dont.

Maybe an AC-powered clock with a sweep second hand would be silent? That way you don't get the ticking from the movement since motion is continuous.

thats what I was talking about its an analogue clock that doesnt use quartz movement. not easy to find new as quartz is super cheap to produce and its all asian cheap stuff nowadays with little variety.

This is probably a silly question, but is it only wall clocks with second hands that will tick every second? I guess clocks with only hour and minute hands still have to count seconds... our one downstairs does but it's a fancy table clock and has moving weights on show. I've never put much thought into it before!

NoizEnvader, that might just have a ticky analogue clock internally.
