Modding BIOS to support lower voltage, possible?

Post by Athlon Powers » Thu Jun 19, 2003 8:28 am

I have a MSI KT3 Ultra with an Award BIOS. I am trying to lower the voltage but unfortunately find that it only goes as low as 1.7v. :(

Is there a way I can force it to lower the voltage, without physically modding my CPU? Is there a pre-modded BIOS? Thanks!

My CPU is an Athlon XP 1700 Palomino (.18micron) and the default voltage is 1.75 volts I think. Im trying a 100FSB to make 1.1GHz but I want to lower the voltage also so the chip dosent burn out. Thanks!

1.75 is the default voltage.. and I highly doubt any has modded the bios to go lower. The chips involved may not even be capable of it, though I don't know anything there....

It just seems too few people are interested in undervolting to get good options.

I have KT3 ultra-ARU, which is basically same board, and it won't go lower than 1.70V with 1600+ palomino:cry:. And I do have the latest BIOS, 5.7 if my memory serves me right  . Updated it just coulpe of weeks ago...

I can't go below 1.725 with my KT3 Ultra2. I updated to the latest bios and my usb controller stopped working so I had to go to the 2nd newest one.

I've looked for a mod for my asus a7v8x to lower the vcore of my palomino. Asus boards over volt anyway which is very annoying.

If I put a new thouroughbred in there it would happily run it at 1.5v, so why not give this option in the bios for the palomino?

I've found this site http://www.ocinside.de/index_e.html, it has some interactive guides on connecting the bridges and it looks like you may be able to change the vcore actually on the processor. Haven't tried it yet though!
