Need Advice: Antec Sonato or Chenbro PC61166

Post by Clemens » Sun Aug 17, 2003 3:38 am

I'm in the process of building a new silent PC. After reading a lot on this site, I have to choose between the following configs:

for both configs: P4 2.4GHz + Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu connected to Qfan on an ASUS P4P800 board.

1: Antec Sonato with everthing default, no swapping PSU and FAN

or

2: Chenbro PC61166 case aka "Gamingbomb"
PSU: Zalman ZM300A AFP
120mm FAN: PAPST 4412F/2GL

The costs are about the same, what is the beter config concerning noise performance?

An alternative for the PSU are different models from ENERMAX, how do they compare to the Zalman?

Thanks, Clemens

Hello:

Based on these pictures of the Chenbro:

http://www.thecrucible.ca/reviews/xpider/

I'd have to say the Chenbro would be quieter -- the PS and the exhaust fan will be a lot quieter. The Sonata will have quieter HD's though.

The stock fans and PSU on the sonata will be alot louder than you're probably looking for. And any Enermax model will be louder than the Zalman.

The chenbro comes with a pretty loud fan according to the crucible.ca review
Sunon KD1212PTB3-6A 2.4w 120mm fan
120 x 25mm 0.20A, 2.4W, 2400RPM, 69CFM, 35.5 DBa

also...imo it looks extemely tacky compared to the sleek "piano black "sonata

the final blow...no reset button...wtf???

the sonata 120mm fan isn't exactly "loud" but even this "unloudness" can easily be tamed by connecting it to one of the "fan only" outputs of the included antec psu.

EDIT:OMG Just read another review on the chenbro...it's an impossible decision now!!! according to this: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/ ... bro_6.html

a fortron 350w w/120mm fan comes with the chenbro...so there really is no need for another psu, if you like how the chenbro looks just go with it stock and have an extra $40 in your pocket :D

That's the nice thing of the chenbro... at the shop where I will buy it, it comes without a PSU and fan... so I can chose those for myself

A lot of reviews of the chenbro are with different PSU/FAN because it isn't standard included

Yes, I know about it not having a reset button, but I never use it... I plan to make a stable system :o And if I should get a hangup, there's always an escape by pushing the power button for more than 3 secs
