"More than you can throw a stick at" is an idiom that usually means "more than expected". "Shake a stick at" is a more common alternate.

So, getting to the actual drive.
Very quiet seeks, especially for a 7200rpm. Makes you wonder if seagate ever notice that Green is in vogue right now and made a 5400rpm low power drive it would could be the quietest high capacity drive we've heard (or not heard as the case may be).

Should compare it to the Western Digital AV-GP WD10EVCS
about the same price. 5400rpm reportedly it seems though.
Samsung F1 are starting to be taken over by WD's Green pricewise, both are now at least 15e cheaper than the above mentioned.
Have to wonder if the 25e premium is worth for the WD GP in these economically tight times.

Historically A/V (audio/visual) rated drives differed in their greater ability for a steady content delivery. The A/V friendly delivery is related to the amount of surface flaws and how they are remapped.

The acoustic specs for the lower capacity Pipeline HD are:
160 GB 1.9/2.1 (typical/max, bels)
320 GB 1.9/2.1
500 GB 2.1/2.4
as opposed to the Pipeline Pro reviewed here:
1 TB 2.9/3.1
Sounds like quite a difference. The smaller capacity models could be quiet drives indeed.

Yes, it true, the differences are quite big. Why? Because the other models all run at 5900 RPM. This was the main reason that I sought out Pipeline samples many months ago, but I was away when Larry was doing the testing -- and the current datasheet for the smaller models don't mention spindle speed.Reachable wrote:The acoustic specs for the lower capacity Pipeline HD are:
