Silent Lian-Li PC75 gaming build

Post by akwok » Mon Apr 25, 2005 8:27 pm

Hi all, I just recently transformed my watercooling case into a full silent air rig, and it has been a fun experience; I am very picky when it comes to noise so I will do anything to achieve inaudibility.

Specs :
3.2C @ 3.5GHz, XP120 w/ Coolermaster 120mm Sleeve bearings, 5V
2x 512 PC3200 Samsung w/ heatspreaders
ATi X800 Pro w/ ZM80C w/ 120mm Coolermaster 120mm, 5V mounted on a FB123
Seasonic S12-430
Seagate 200gb 7200.7, mounted in a SilenX Luxurae enclosure (best I can do since I'm a Canadian)

System is very quiet (VERY close to inaudible) with extremely quiet ambient noise (ambient noise is very creepy actually, it's so quiet you can hear noises from your ears)

Idle temps are 35C, full load 53C. I opted for zero case fans as it only adds noise (my other rig has 6 80mm nexuses at 7v, and it adds a lot of noise; but is necessary when cooling a prescott).

It would be cleaner if the Seasonic actually had the wires going out on the RIGHT side rather than the left side (facing the window)... and the Lian Li was too big so the ATX cable had to be 'stretched' like that, otherwise it could be nicely tucked away in the back. :(.

Thanks for the comments, :-).

Fantastic - what a nice looking case

What HDD temps do you get from the Silenx HDD enclosure?

Ehh, never bothered to check really; don't know of any SMART monitoring programs.

However, it's warm to the touch so it should be doing it's job. There is zero airflow in the case, so :D

Speedfan can check the HD temps.

Is 51C too high? It's been at around 50C-55C for the last few days, and I've been leaving the comp on 24/7.

BS! 51 is fine, dont need to worry about that. Let's just say that at 51 degrees, nothing will fry, and nothing will be lost.

Just to add fuel to the fire. 51C is far too high. You got enough 5.25 drive bays? ;)

51*c isn't that high at all. even up to 55*c is fine im my books (and i run an overclocked overvolted rig). My Harddrives generally run in the high 40s
Over 60*c is unacceptable for a HDD though.

Most hard drives are rated up to about 55-60c depending on brand. Whether you want your drives to be running so slose to that mark is up to you.

I personally won't accept anything hotter than 45c in mine.

Exactly!!! Most CPUs are rated just over 70C, and noone runs near that. Your HDD is a mechanical device and more susceptible to heat related failure.
