My first mod
hi guys, (& girls?)
My gaming pc was a bit loud so I placed it in another room. Though this works fine and is complete silent, it isn't very practical. Just for fun I started to read the spcr.
First i bought the solo. Tried a TR HR-01 but the orientation was wrong to use it with a tunnel towards the case-exhaust-fan.
Because the ninja is a perfect square it can be used in any direction.
The tunnel was a bit long so i shortened it. I doesn't fit very neatly but hey... it's my first build
I already had an enermax noisetaker. My system is now a lot quiter and the only thing i hear now is the GF 6600 fan. So there's still work to be done
Any suggestions to make the GF 6600 fanless?
Specs: athlon 3200+@2400 mhz, case solo, GF 6600, asus a8ve-deluxe.
My temps:
Before mod: idle: cpu 33 chipset 30 LOAD: cpu 50 chipset 35
After mod: idle: cpu 31 chipset 31 LOAD: cpu 45 chipset 35
greetings,
ivan

The tunnel is from thermalright if I'm not mistaken. It costs about 10 euro's. It's much longer in its original state but i had to cut the middle section out. It's not 100% compatible so I would't really suggest it but it works good enough for me
The plastic is very soft and it's a bit sticky. I have a dell for my work which also has this kind of heat-removing-technology
An extra fan on the ninja is absolutely not necessary. I think this also works with the C2D which is next on my wanted-list and also has a tdp of 65 degrees. But i'm wandering of subject here

Very nice. The only thing I worry about is the thermalright hr-05 and the msofets not getting too much air.
I have a thermalright v1 on my 6600. works Very well, but it might not fit on your board seeing how close the pci-e is to the chipset and cpu. it DOEs work VERY well on passive, under 40 idle and 45 load.

from what i can see your vga should be ok with tt schooner. i know, i know, tt is not really popular among quiet computing enthusiasts, and for a good reason, but their schooner works fine. somehow difficult to install, but otherwise a fine product. should fit 6600 chipset fine as long as the chip is aligned with the vga (i guess some 6600s had their gpus placed diagonally - but yours looks standard). naturally, it will get pretty close to your hr-05, so it might be tricky in terms of 1) space 2) temps. nevertheless, works fine for me - it sits on a 7600gt, just above is a ninja, and just next to it is an hr-05. so the setup is pretty much the same and even tho all three heatsinks are close to each other, there are no thermal issues, and if things get real hot (EDIT: like summer high noon gaming on OCed gear, 5 hrs of oblivion hehe) i can always up the nearby exhaust fan.
let me know if you're interested in this schooner thing - i can measure exactly how much room it needs above the card, so you can see if it ifts under your nb cooler.
oh - temps on my schoonered 7600gt are 61/74 - pretty safe if you ask me (a few degrees higher if i OC the card for oblivion)
also, a good idea might be a semiflower zalman - should be 100% compatible and v quiet on low - you probably won't even need it on high. i had it before the schooner and it all worked fine (hey, i even had it on 6600)

rayan...
mosfets - don't know about these, but given the overall good cooling in ivan's system, that should not be an issue either
btw - you got some wicked temps on your vga mine seem like hell's kitchen
no worry about passive hr-05 - i never seen mine over 40 degrees, heck, i even don't remember it above 35 degrees no matter what. and there is little wind in my case.Ryan wrote:Very nice. The only thing I worry about is the thermalright hr-05 and the msofets not getting too much air.

Those are good options.
The schooner is the cheapest with 31 euro's. The TR v is 48 euros. I will give it a better look later when I have more time.
If you want to measure the space in between the HR-05 and the graphics cards that would be very nice. I lean toward the fanless schooner option.
Thanx for now guys
