AMD FX silent system

Post by AgustF » Wed Apr 04, 2007 10:39 am

Hi , I am new on the forums but been reading reviews and things on this site for almost 4 years. Took me a while to join hehe...

Well I will start with my stats:
AMD64 FX-53 (2.4GHz) Noctua NH-U9F (CPU HSF)
Asus A8N32 Sli Deluxe motherboard
1,5GB High performance ram PC3200 (Kingston and Corsair)
Geforce 7900GS (Zalman V900Cu)
WD 500GB SATA hard disk Caviar SE16(AAKS) model I think(Suspended)
Lian-Li PC60A Plus II tower
Noname 450W powersupply(Fanmod, Scythe S-Flex fan SFF21E)

This is my third build for a silent PC so I hav alittle experience in it. I started by taking out the fan in the power supply and putting a Scythe S-Flex SFF21E instead for it. That dropped the noise from the powersupply to almost zero. Then I took the stock fan from the Geforce 7900GS and put a Zalman V900Cu for it at 5V.http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/agustf/To ... 0795432082

Then I removed the fan for the graphic card exhaust that comes with the cabinet this is the fan http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/agustf/To ... 3130122450

Then it was the CPU turns. A combo of copper and aluminium beauty with a brownish fan the Noctua NH-U9F(92 mm fan) this is one soundless CPU HSF and it pushes alot of air for a 92mm fan(very good buy).

Then I put resistant on the 80mm stock Lian-Li fan(5V) so it is okay.
At last I suspended my brand new WD Caviar SE16 AAKS 500GB SATA hard disk with elastic in the Lian-Li hard disk box. That mod did the trick I cant hear my hard disk and I dont know if its running without having to see if the HD led is blinking on.

Next steps are to exchange the front intake 120mm Lian-Li fan with a Noctua 120mm and then to add some sound absorbing material.

Here is a pic of one of my old builds
P4 2.4 Northwood
Abit IC-7 mobo w/zalman NB heatsink
Asus Geforce Ti4200(factory overclocked) mod w/passive cooling
2x120GB Seagate Cudas(SATA)

it looks really good, the cables towards the top are a little messy, but manageable.

how sturdy is the case, it looks like either an aluminum or rolled steel case, but from the pictures it doesn't look like the kind of computer you could stand on safely at all [one of my older computers had a case that you could jump on from any direction and it wouldn't give for beans].

lookin' good though, is there a side window or no?

Well bonestone its a aluminium case so I wouldnt try to stand on it, well I wouldnt try to stand on any computer case for that manner.. hehe. But as many here would tell you Lian-Li cases are as solid as they come, execellent craftmanship and top quality materials. About cabling I have redone that, I will try to post a final assembly pic soon.

I am most surprised by how silent this WD caviar SE16 hard disk is. I have been a hardcore Seagate/Samsung fan for years and this is actually the first WD disk I buy in like 7 years! . After reading an exellent review on it here at SPCR I decided what the hell I try it and what a bliss, suspened it is completely silent!
