My P182 Setup

Amazing rig first of all. I am contemplating upgrading to something similar.
on my A8N mainboard with a Ninja and HR03, the video card sits in the top possible slot and the cpu is somewhat oriented in the middle of the top of the mainboard. With the HR on the topside of my video card it has about a 1/4 inch of clearance next to the ninja. So the ninja cooling fan seems to blow air across the video card as well.
granted my vidcard isn't as hot as yours, my temps sit ~3-5c lower then yours. would you suspect an 8800 may also be able to work in that position in my case? Or is its heat out put substantially higher?

To get those reading I used Ntune and Rivatuner. Both were about the same. And no Ii didn't try to put it on top that would be way to hard for me I'm totally happy with my system. Its dead quiet on load or idle and it has great temps. I might add a front intake fan later just to see if I can get those temps down even lower we'll see....
djoole, falcon26, all I can say is maybe my HR-03 Plus is broken. For me, with either a 92mm Papst fan at 7V or 120mm Nexus at 7V, temps ere equal or a bit worse than the stock cooler. Maybe my stock cooler is better?falcon26 wrote:Stock Cooler : Idle 68 Load 85
And the HR-03 : Idle 56 Load 68
Perhaps I'm just doing it wrong. I have tried over and over with the HR-03 Plus to get it right, but nothing I do can lower temps to the levels you mention. I have a P182 with front, rear, top and lower chamber Nexus 120s at 7V, with an Ultra-120 Extreme on the CPU. I suppose I'll try mounting on top just to test.
I note that MadShrimps installed the HR-03 Plus incorrectly when putting the heatsink below the card - if you look athe thumb screws are on the GPU side of the board, when they are meant to be on the top according to the instructions. Not sure what difference it makes.
The stock cooler temps should be fine for the card, and noise wise it is quieter than a WD5000AAKS in the P182. Plus, it drops CPU and case temps significantly when installed with a shroud, as the hot air is blown right out the back.
You need to be a bit wary of that review. Their temperatures are far better than you'll get with the HR-03 Plus in a low airflow quiet case.djoole wrote:Madshrimps test shows that the HR-03 is way more efficient than the stock cooler, have a look :

Have a look at nutball's comments about using it with a 8800GTS card passively here:

.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: someone needs to make a three slot cooler with 92/120mm fan for the 8800s.
It would be similar to the stock cooler, but taller to fill the extra slot and with more heatpipes. If you remove the fan from the stock cooler it becomes possible to place a 92/120mm fan at an angle towards the rear. With a suitable shroud it could force air over the heatsink and out the back.
I suppose with G82 rumors flying no-one will make one, but oh well...

Falcon, how does the Corsair 620 noise scale with increased load? Do you hear it much when you play e.g. BF2 or do something else CPU/GPU intensive? I know it's very quiet when idle, but I'm worried it may start to whine in "real-life" usage. Thanks.falcon26 wrote:To get those reading I used Ntune and Rivatuner. Both were about the same. Very good to hear indeed Did you have those pics of the cabling behind the motherboard by the way? Much appreciated.falcon26 wrote:The corsair psu is dead quiet on load or idle. I can play BF2 for 3 or 4 hours and I still don't hear it. I've been very very pleased with it. Its got rock solid voltages and its dead quiet what more could you ask for
falcon26, did you ever get a chance to snap a pic of your cable routing? I have almost the same setup, main difference is I have the 540 watt corsair and 8800gts 320meg. I can not route the cables behind the motherboard tray and get the back panel on. The power cable is really thick. From the looks of the pictures the 620 has the same power cable.

I just finished wiring my p182 with the corsair 620. SirPoonga, the cables were rather large, and the side panel was hard to get on, but I managed and the panel does not bend outward. Just be patient when putting the panel back on, it took a few tries. Also, Falcon, if you are still reading the thread, would you mind placing some pictures of your back panel (if you did not have as much trouble as I did) I would like some ideas as to route the cables better, mine are not quite as clean as yours. Thanks!

The back panel? I had a hell of a time putting it on, it never wanted to slide closed. I found it strange since it didn't really bulge at all and the cords seemed to fit within the case. Also, Falcon, if your back panel is anything like mine, please don't even bother opening it up. It is NOT worth it. Takes around 15 minutes to get it to fit back on.
I have different expirience. I have Corsair 620HX PSU with all cables going behind the case and side door closed without any problems. I even applied sound absorber material to it that made it even thicker.desert0mirage wrote:The back panel? I had a hell of a time putting it on, it never wanted to slide closed. I'm planning to build a similar system so this tread is really interesting.
A question for falcon26:
Is there room enough for you to mount the HR-03 Plus facing upwards if you wanted to? I would prefer to keep some more expansion slots.
For everyone:
How much do different main boards differ in the distance from the PCIe x16 slot to the processor socket? Is there some recommended board for me if I want to make sure the HR-03 Plus can be mounted upwards?
