Simple [inaudible] computer w/ 1x700RPM and 2x400RPM Noctua

Hi,

Here is a wiki page with parts, building instructions, pictures and video for a simple
and noiseless (as long as you are not in an anechoic chamber) computer:
http://www.notam02.no/projects/index.ph ... iseless_PC

Processor: Intel i7 920
Case: Antec P183
CPU fan: 700RPM Noctua
Case fans: 400RPM Noctua
PSU: Silverstone SST-ST45NF 450W (fanless)

The machine is simple and straight forward to build. The only special
thing we did was to add rubber mounts to the CPU fan, but even without
those it would still be extremely quiet.

Not the cheapest parts though.

Very nice project.
Is the airflow decent even at those RPM from the front case fan? I ask this because the airflow produced by the fan must pierce the case door and filters.

Neat. I'm tempted to lower the rpm on my case fan...

Thanks you very much.

Depends what you mean by decent. None of the cores went over 79 degrees during stress test, the MB temperature seems to be stable at around 45 degrees, and there is also a tiny bit of airflow in front. So I think the the airflow is good enough for a long-lasting machine, but of course that remains to be seen. :-)

Also, the two 400 RPM case fans mounted in the back of the case makes very little noise compared to the CPU fan. So adding one or two more 400 RPM fans in front (there's two unused slots for 120mm fans in front) might not make any difference in noise, if more airflow is needed.
