rackmount case
I'm wondering if anyone here knows of a good/quite rackmount case?
Or is it harder to find a rackmount case that is quite as they should be in a machine room away from people?

There was a little talk about this yesterday. Start reading here and especially note shathal's post at the end of the thread.
Here's another rackmount thread.
And a couple more:

Yeah, well, that shows how much my pat on the back is worth. That and £2 will get you a cup of tea. Or the wrong foam.shathal wrote:Ohhhh ... I get a special mention?
Wooo .
(Ah well - one has to rejoice in anything, after finding that due to a misdelivered part one can't begin building a new system...) .

I'm currently doing the same thing: 2 x rackmounted pcs, one music workstation (DAW), one file/app server.
I appreciate what shathal says about the niche being unlikely, but this is it: Most studio equipment in 19" rack, and the quiet pcs you pick up from carillon, sub, digital village etc usually have a rackmount option. If you've got outboard rack gear like amps, voice channels, processors etc, then it makes sense to rack your pc with them.
Rackmount boxes in the UK are rare, and there are pretty much 3 sources available:
Coolermaster aluminium 4U from Dabs (not cheap)
Antech steel 4U (not cheap and comes with a ratty PSU)
www.pcicase.co.uk steel options in any U.
I went with a pcicase to prototype the DAW. I bought it through one of their retailers (Source Technology) who shipped it next day for free. pcicase themselves were happy to go through my requirements on the phone and make recommendations.
The case itself is utterly bomb-proof and looks similar to the kustompc one. The 5 1/4" bay is decoupled from the chassis with rubber cylinders. There is bags of room inside. Everything is modular, so you rip and mod to your heart's content. It's also heavy.
