Generic sound insulation?
I've got several PCs that I'm trying to make quiter. I've checked out acoustipak and other dampening kits. I'm wondering if some of the SPCR members are perhaps using materials that could be purchased in bulk for cheaper. The possibilities are endless but the materials properties other than sound dampening could be critical as well. Any ideas would be appreciatted.
HI
I second that one. I'd like to use something that'll dampen the vibrations, but can't find actual acoustic materials too easily. I'm searching for something that's non-static too (to minimise dust).
I was wondering what people think of the foam that's used to make those thin hiking mattresses? It's easy enough to get hold of, but is it dense enough to damp the sound?

I found this thread helpful for generating ideas about 'do-it-yourself' acoustipak alternatives. The items listed in this thread can be bought in bulk; While they are cheaper than acoustipak, however, they may not be as cheap as you're looking for.
