Replace BQE side panel with 3000B's panel?

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

Replace BQE side panel with 3000B's panel?

Post by c10000 » Thu Jun 30, 2005 12:06 pm

Hi,

I've been lurking around this board from time to time, and I've learned a lot from all of you.

My system has an Antec 3700BQE case running an AMD 3200+ cpu. It's getting hot these days, and once in a while, the system shuts down due to CPU getting too hot.

So, I am thinking of replacing the 3700BQE side panel by the equivalent 3000B panel, which has an air duct.

I can order the side panel at antec's web site. But I am wondering if it is available at retail stores. Maybe it'll be cheaper.

Does anybody have any other idea?

Thanks.

Charles

I thought about doing this too, but insted I upgraded my heatsink. I'm pretty happy.

I suspect that the new side door would lower your temperatures, but also increase noise, because of the vents. I'd love for someone to meansure this.

You could duct your CPU fan to the rear fan slot (that's what I did with the nexus on my SI-97). That is, if you have a CPU heatsink that could work well with exhaust ducting. This should work best if you have CPU fan stronger than you case fan.

Magic: What heatsink do you have now?

mathias: I have a Zalman 7000 Al/Cu. Is Zalman a good candidate for ducting? How did you do it?

Thanks!

If you already have a decently powerful drill, it only takes up to $10 to buy the attachment to drill a hole in the side of the case. If you do that, you might also want to spend an addition 2 or so dollars getting the tool that smooths out the drill.

Not for exhaust ducting IMO, but even that's been pulled of, it's in an SPCR article, one about a Pentium M system IIRC.

Kind of like this duct I made for a volcano 9: Image
except it extends all the way to the fan slot and is sealed.

Before that I had also made a boxy duct connecting that heatsink with an 80mm fan to an 80mm case fan. It helped even though it was poorly made. My current duct worked much worse than now before I cut the cardboard pieces to fit better and taped them together better, so a single fan duct really needs to not have any leaks.
