What are the disadvantages of running the comp w/ side panels off?
I don't have pets so no worries about them getting electricuted 8)

Dust, lack of airflow. The ATX standard pulls air from the back. This enables components to have cool air from the front to be pulled over them. Leaving the side panel off will probably raise your temps. Individual setups vary, as some people do get lower temps this way. But again, you'll have more dust to deal with, at least if your case had dust filters as they are being bypassed.

And obviously, leaving your sidepanel off allows MUCH more noise to escape without that extra layer of metal between the internal noise and the outside world.
