P180 Floppy Drive Installation Problems

Post by johnc » Sat Nov 04, 2006 11:02 pm

Has anyone put a floppy drive in the external 3.5" drive bay?

I have stalled out on this step. It...just...won't...work.

If anyone could provide detailed steps, I would be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

I never installed a floppy drive on my P180, but I had installed a fan controller in the 3.5" bay. You need the smaller bracket. Screw them after the floppy, and then slide them into the case by the front. You might consider passing the floppy cables by the same place first and plug it, because if you don't it's a real pain getting to the plugs.

Thanks, Phil.

I attached the rails, attached the cables, slid the device in from the front, but NO SNAP. So, the device is in there, and will probably not be coming out, but I would be happier if it were better secured in the bay. It moves around if you tug on it.

Just wondering if there is something I'm missing.

Why do I need a floppy? BIOS, recovery, etc etc. Also, my floppy functions as a card reader, so transferring photos, etc, etc.

Thanks for your advice.

Yes, I had difficulty getting *SNAP* when installing floppy in P180. I had to push it in hard and then had to push the metal parts of the rail (whatever they are called) outwards. It's awkward, but it does stay secure inside.

Actually no, scrap what I said before. I messed up a little (forgot details), I did have trouble mounting sunbeam rheostat, but I checked floppy and it slides in/out without any trouble, and has a snap sound too.

No problems for me :\ I just used the small rails, slid it in, and it went click and then it worked.

That was the easiest piece of hardware to install,(besides the other drives & fans)for me!
Just use a little finesse, and a steady hand helps.
Actually, I could have done it drunk
