would a Thermalright ultra 120 extreme in a P182 need a fan at all?
will be using a Q6600 CPU
in the review of the P182 here it mentioned the MB controlled fan on the cpu never turned on at all - with the back and top fan running on low
I will probbaly replace the stock 182 fans with a Scythe S-Flex medium speed 120mm on the back and a slow speed on the top and turn their speeds up and down as needed with a fan controller
will be mostly doing audio, renderering and some gaming

I have that case and that cpu hsi. I tried it without a fan and forget it, it gets to hot if your a gamer. I also have a intel e6600. I used a scythe 800 rpm fan for my thermalright and for my exhaust fan and it works perfect. My idle temps are 38F and about 55F load...you can see my setup in the galley under My p182 setup...
so do you still have a Q6600? if so what fan are using with it?falcon26 wrote:I have that case and that cpu hsi. I tried it without a fan and forget it, it gets to hot if your a gamer. Would a 800rpm S-flex be enough for it?
I doubt that you will ever get close to those temps on air and indoors. Maybe outdoors in north canada in a middle of winterfalcon26 wrote:I have that case and that cpu hsi. CoolColJ: Yes you will need a fan. Q6600 draws 105W. To cool it passively you will need to turn up your case fans waaaay up, almost making your case into a windtunnel, and by doing so you will endup having noisier comp than if you just had a low rpm fan on ultra to begin with.
