Hole-sealing method, what do you use?

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

My method is to cut a piece of tin the right size (although cardboard or anything else would do), put a hole in it and pop rivet through the grill. This will last (unlike tape and such), it's quick and reversible.

I used silver Hi Vac tape from Home Depot.

Edit: The idea came from Ralf Hutter of course.

Me too. It sticks forever with out drying up like duct tape or melting like electrical tape. It's also very strong and malleable so it's easy to get it to seal irregular shapes.

Tin/light gauge steel. Drill.

Add rounded head bolt and a thumbscrew with washer on the other side to hold it on.

Potsy's method sounds pretty good for fan mount places you dont use at the moment. Especially if the grilles are curved.

Are you other two talking about Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning aluminum tape? That sounds quite proper for the job. Heat resistant and durable. Although how is it to remove and adjust such a tape?

Painters paper masking tape. Dirt cheap, no traces upon removal and judging from my door-frames at "home-home" the thing doesn't come off even after 15 years.

For quick easy solutions I use tape.

Yes.

It's a bitch to remove, but I suppose that's a by-product of it's retention/durability under rather extreme conditions.
