Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

Best way to get rid of vibration

Post by falcon26 » Mon Jan 05, 2009 8:08 pm

My P180B sits in my desk in a hole like compartment. It produces alot of vibration. What would be the best way to get rid of the vibration?

Also, you want to look at what's generating the vibrations to begin with. If it's the hard drive(s), look at suspension. If it's the fans, look at replacing them or using gasket-like options to reduce vibrations from being transmitted to the case.

You need to find the source of the vibration first.

I have the Mini P180 and the hard drive cage vibrates producing a hum (if I press my finger against it, it lessens). What I did was cut out some foam and stuffed it in the four corners between the cage and the compartment above and below it. That helped a lot.

Is the top fan still stock?

The stock fan in my P182 made the top panel vibrate, which made an unpleasant hum. Replacing it with a proper fan solved the problem.
