P182 - Different color schemes?

Post by Gedd » Fri Jan 30, 2009 10:29 am

I'm almost done putting together my final part build list, and I've been looking at the Antec P182, but I didn't like the lighter color, I prefer solid black exteriors. I've been primarily focused on ordering from Newegg and Microcenter, so all I've seen is a sort of mainly greyish (which I assume is what "gun metal black" looks like) looking case you can see here:

Well today I go and check Amazon and I see a black version of the case which you can see here:

I know there's a P182 SE which has the shiny, mirror-like panels, but these aren't the SE models. Are there really two other versions of the P182, one a true black, and one an off-black? Or is it just a lighting difference or some other effect? I thought it might be lighting, but the contrast in color around the front USB ports in the NewEgg version makes it look like it's really a different color.

AFAIK, other than the mirror-finish SE, the P182 black is only the 'gun metal' finish. The color difference in those two photos is a lighting effect.

I have two of these cases, and to me the color looks more like the Amazon photo (which is direct from the Antec site) than the NewEgg one.

Thanks. What's also odd is that the customer reviews at NewEgg seem to indicate that some got black, and some got a gun metal grey.

The P182 only comes in gun metal grey but the original p180b shipped in silver and black. I don't know if the p180 is still manufactured/available but the latest p180 i had my hands on actually included the p182-like modifications (like easier cable management).

So if you can find a p180 black somewhere unless you are very unlucky you will get a black "p182".

Hope it helps !

That's the P180b...for black, I suppose. It's identical in every way to the P182, save the color. That's what almost everyone sells these days, so you can pretty much rest assured that you'll be getting, essentially, a black P182.
