I am buying one later this week. The computer will house a Seasonic SS-600HT, 2 hard drives, 2 optical drives (hardly used), ASUS P5Q Pro, Core 2 E7300 w/Thermalright HR-01, and a Gigabyte 9800GT.
I am planning on getting 3 fans for the case and one for the HR-01, the fans I am planning on getting are Nexus 120mm real silent case fans. Is there a case fan that might be a better match?
I am probably going to mod the fans by installing a potentiometer in line with it. What resistance should this pot be to drop it to 5V?
What to complement a P183

For the Real Silent Nexus I've found a rating of 0.3A max. That gives a resistance of 12/0.3 = 40[ohm]. The voltage splitting rule says you then need 40x1.4=56[ohm] for the potentiometer. At that resistance the pot will draw (rounded up) 0.9W of power, which is equal to the maximum power drawn at 40ohm.Hans5849 wrote:I am probably going to mod the fans by installing a potentiometer in line with it. Thus you'll need a pot rated 0-100ohm, 1W. Those are expensive...
It's cheaper to use a darlington transistor and a power transistor mounted in common-emitter configuration and controlled by a cheap, low power, potentiometer. The fan is installed between power emitter and ground.
Cheers

With that case it seems a shame not to use this power supply.
I'm only suggesting it because I think that PSU is a great idea and it's good value.
Maybe you've already got the Seasonic.
