Antec P180, P182, or P183

Post by qpc » Wed Nov 04, 2009 9:50 am

I abandoned the idea of SOLO because of that piano black. Can't stand it.
Gun black, white, or gray is fine.

Therefore I'm looking into the three Antec cases, of that Performance series: P180, P182, P183.

I read review articles here at SPCR, and so far I figured that P182 has better cable management over it's predecessor P180.

If you were to buy one of those now, what would you go with, if silence is your #1 task.

My configuration is listed under topic 56074 (sorry, cannot post links until I get three posts done)

I believe that the configuration is not any challenge from cooling perspective.

Thanks

P183 is the way to go, unless you really dislike its style. More airflow than P182, which is a good thing.

If you'll keep the front door closed most of the time, there's really not much to complain about, aesthetically, anyway. And even with it open, it's a matter of taste.

I concur. The P180 is out, P182 is fine and P183 is the best of the lot.
Only if you're going to use your optical drive(s) a lot and want to have their noise dampened is P183 lesser.

Cheers

Hello everyone,

Aside from the apparent aesthetic differences between the three models, there are a few feature differences... I would link to the product flyer, but I can't post links yet... account's too new. :)

Head to Antec's site and go to the P183 product page (Enclosures > Performance One > P183), then select the Product Flyer link.

I know it's a flyer outlining the whole P183 product, but we did include a section highlighting the differences between the P182 and P183 just for your reference. :D

Thanks. Maybe once I have more posts, I will post the link directly on here.

Welcome, Antec rep :)

You can post a couple "test posts" in THIS section of the forum, if you'd like to get permission to post links.

it's a rather moot question, because the only case out of those three that has wide availability is the p183.

it's also moot because antec has a smoking hot $25 rebate on the p183 at newegg right now, and there is free shipping with it, see the deals section of this website for the link i posted... i say it's hot, because i've never seen antec put a rebate on this case before.

now if the antec rep can only get us a deal on the antec cp-850 power supply (hint hint!!)

the p183 rebate deal was so good that i bought one to replace my p182 with... the most disappointing thing about the p183 is that it doesn't come with the top hat over the vent, but i'll mock something up there instead... the vents in the doors more than make up for that issue.

Ah, I didn't know about that. (I have the P182, myself; got it a little while before P183 came out)

You can get yourself something like this filter (except maybe the version for which you don't need steel; IIRC, the top has a layer of plastic)

thanks for the link to the filter.

one reason that i like the top hat is because i can lay a towel over it and block out some of the fan noise... right now i'm thinking build a top hat around that filter frame you linked to...

I've taken the hat ("spoiler?") off my P180 because it decreases airflow if you're using very slow fans. Only very slightly, but it doesn't seem to serve much purpose so I take it off.
