Sonata/3700 fan mounts
I think I have decided on the Sonata or 3700 for my new case but I have a question about the 120mm fans.
I will be getting 2 120mm Panaflo L1As, but these fans are 38mm thick. The Antec site says the cases support 25mm thick fans. For the exhaust fan I doubt this makes much of a difference, but what about the intake fan that sits on the drive cage (Sonata) or front of the drive cage (3700)?
Does anyone out there run this setup? Is 38mm too thick? Does it get in the way of other components?
Thanks for any help.

I have 2 Panaflo's 120mm x 38 in my Sonata. The case comes with 4 long isolators that hold one Panaflo perfectly. It also comes with 4 short isolators that hold the 120x25 Antec fan. I could not get those to hold my Panaflo. I ended up using the ones from Silicon Acoustics, but I'm not terribly happy with the fit there either. At least it holds for now.

It's not quite "proper" but the McMaster-Carr PN 5801K8 isolators will fit with the 120mm L1A. You have to stretch them pretty tight (through the fan frame) but they will work.Herb W. wrote:Does anyone know of fan isolator that will fit the 120mm Panaflo properly when it is used in a Sonata case?
To see these isloators (and also the PN 5801K6 which are the "normal size" for 80mm and 92mm fans) go to Mcmaster.com and search for "5801K8". Scroll down the page a little and you'll see them.

Re: hmmm
I don't know about "easier" but you could certainly do it that way. Personally, I'd rather just buy the k8 isolators and use a little elbow grease.Uwackme wrote:Wouldnt it all be easier if you just FILE'd down some of the thickness of the Panaflo's mounting-ears? From the inside, not the outside edge of course.
That way the panaflo's ear would be as thick as nirmal 25mm thick fan's is.
yes-no?
