I'm pretty sure this case has been mentioned before, or at least one that looks just like it.

"For Totally No Noise Computer" - always funny to read bad grammar :D

Zalman's TNN

Post by daneli » Wed Jul 23, 2003 10:41 am

A Zalman representative has confirmed that this is their product. Here's the post from Zalman's "Web Board" on 7/16/2003:
====================================
Thank you very much for your fervent interest in Zalman's upcoming product.

Q: What about the price?
A: It is very likely that the official retail price of TNN 500A cooling system will be determined as about 900~1,100 US dollars.

Q: Where can I buy it?
A: Zalman's dustributors all over the world will have it stocked in the near future. When the time comes, contact Zalman distributors in your country by referring to 'Order' section on the upper right corner of this screen.

Q: When (can I buy it) ?
A: We are going to launch the TNN cooling system around September. Then, you will be able to order it via or to distributors in your country. Please be patient until the time comes. Thank you.

Regards,
Jinkook Kim/ZALMAN

No kidding.

I think I'll pass on a PC case that's more than both my car payments combined. (or my house payment, for that matter)

Hey :( I already posted the Zalman price link on the older thread! http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=5022

 But anyway, as I stated there, the price Zalman quotes is the official price, we ought to be able to see the case for less at other places (though not much less.

For the price range, other comparisons to make are the noiseless cabinets, such as the $1500-$5000 cabinets at

I think a $900 for a case like this make sense.

Aluminum HS Case (with more than 2 times the aluminum of a $200 Al case) $400
Fanless PSU $250
VGA Heatpipe Cooler $30
Fanless CPU Cooler $50

Thats about $730. I guess the rest is R&D. Regardless, I know that I would not pay $900 for a case :)

Damn. I can only imagine the case I could build for $900...

Or how many cases, actually.

found some pictures

http://www.warp2search.net/modules.php? ... &sid=13396

i wonder how zalman is going to handle the various motherboard and graphic card layouts. are they going to let the users bend the heatpipe themselves?

FYI, Zalman's main man is headed for the US with an early sample (final prototype) of the TNN 500A in early August. We may have an interview with Zalman or a more detailed look at this beast at that point.

This case isn't the only thing Zalman will spring on usin North America, see Zalman Heatpipe HDD Cooler. Hope that's not old news, I've been off the forums for months (me very bad).

As per the $900 - $1100 USD ballpark for a case, I see how it's in line with what they are offering, bbbbbut... maybe ok for serious pros? I have been waiting for heatpipes to really hit home for years now. 150W CPU & 50W GPU capacity are the kind of good news we like to see from newish tech. Now how about that 150W being split into 2 * 75W for dual CPU's?

Here is a link to the Zalman promotional material regarding the TNN500A. This is the cleanest version of the promo info I have seen yet.

Zalman informs me that those brochures were pre-production intro docs. They could see substantial change before the product is finally on the shelf. They sent some to me too but asked that I not reprint. Some of the specs do look a little iffy & suggests that performance of various portions could use more tweaking.

It does look hastily prepared to me too, especially from the poor use of the English language. Also, the case does not look like it has a front and back panel, which had seemed odd to me.

Some further Q and A from a zalman rep (actually the same rep as quoted above):

Thank you very much for your fervent interest in Zalman's upcoming product.

Q: Will it be available for AMD as well?
A: Currently, Intel socket478 and AMD socket754 are supported. We are not planning to support older platforms at this moment.

Q: Will it be possible to purchase only the case with the cooling solutions?
A: TNN500A package consisits of a case, a 300W (or 400W) No Fan PSU, cooling solutions and some accessories. PC components, such as motherboard, CPU, memory, etc., are not included.

Q: I understand it might be hard to transfer the CPU heat with heatpipes due to the many motherboard designs, so how flexible is it?
A: Not all motherboards having compatible platforms fit the TNN. About 95% among the latest motherboards are suitable. We'll publish the "Recommended motherboard list for TNN500A".

Q: More than 300w PSUs available? If not, is it possible to use a PSU not made by Zalman?
A: TNN 500A which is being introduced on the web has the 300W No Fan PSU made by Zalman. Higher capacity model, 400W, is being developed and will be available in near future.

Jinkook Kim/ZALMAN

I don't know if it's old news, but it's available in the UK and presume so for many other countries.

Only rumours from local retailr in EU. Availability possibly in October. Price could be between 900 to 1300 euros (don't know if that's retail or wholesale and how accurate estimate).

Just rumours so far.

Yes it's an interesting case, which has been on it's way for a while now (still haven't seen it retail anywhere).

May I also point to this case which has just been announced. Looks promising - same principles as the Zalman, but smaller. Price is 450€ + 79€ for a VGA cooler + 150€ for a fanless PSU.

That case from Silent Maxx Germany looks slightly more affordable than the Zalman TNN500a case (but I suspect after it was shipped to North America it could be more than the Zalman??).

Zalman USA said their case will not be available until January and will have the following prices:
model: price (USD)
>500 : 1,000
>600 : 1,500
>800 : 2,000

I assume the model number refers to the size of power supply. The Zalman case specs appear to be fantastic, but unfortunately, the Zalman price is way too high and is out of reach (at least for me).
