Recommend me a new case

Post by gcwebbyuk » Thu Jan 06, 2011 3:56 am

I currently have a Coolermaster CM690-II case with two 240mm radiators (XSPC RX240 at the bottom and an RS240 at the top).

I am looking for a quieter case which will allow me to keep these radiators.

I need one 5.25" drive bay for the Blu-Ray drive, and 2 3.25" drives (or 1x3.25 and one SSD mount).

Any suggestions - budget is flexible... :D

Cases usually don't make noise...

'Quiet' in a case means something like good airflow, which the CM690 has plenty of and you're employing two dual-radiators for cooling anyway.

HDD decoupling as a stock feature is nice for a lot of people, but you should have enough space to decouple your one hard drive.

That leaves sound dampening. Are you looking for a case that has pre-applied sound dampening?

Consider: Apply sound/ weight dampening to the CM690's side panels (acousti-pak or some heavy peel & stick tiles) to stop them from vibrating, close up the side vents, soft mount & undervolt your case fan(s), and suspend the one hard drive in the 5.25" bay.
There aren't that many "quiet" cases out there that have space to accommodate two 240mm radiators, so modding for silence is your best bet.

I have paxmate and acousti pack applied to all possible areas - so the case is as quiet as it can be.

There is noise leakage through the mesh front panel etc. This is from the Scythe fans when they go above about 700rpm and the EK pump. I have used a decoupler between the case and the pump too.

I was thinking of a case with solid front for instance, like the fractal design cases, although these seem too small to house two radiators.

(Both these fractal designs have doors and are large)
