I'm actually building 2 mini-itx systems, one of which needs to be as small as possible, and one of which is 98% likely to be a Q08b so that there's space for 6 drives. So two different directions for two different purposes. Got the same processor (Core i3-2100) for both systems and a set of hard drives. Now it's on the hunt for the cases and mobo.
For the NAS Raid Box, it's clearly going to be the Lian Li PC-Q08B, already used for spcr reviews and looks like an awesome setup.
For the HTPC box, all I need is space for one 2.5" drive, 1 slim optical and small size to not take up space next to my tv.
The PC-q07 and q-11 are both obviously too large for this goal. As mentioned, the
I do kind of like the Lian Li PC-Q09, but the price is definitely wrong. It actually costs more than the PC-Q08B, which is ridiculous since one's a tiny case that holds very little. Adding a pico-psu type psu shouldn't raise the price that much. Form factor is no excuse for a big premium. Also lacking in good reviews regarding how quiet it can be. The Q09F version is definitely worse. From a review I found it uses a FSP 150 watt psu with 40mm fan. That can't be good for silence
In comparison the Antec 300/310-150 is pretty cheap, but the psu sucks. And I'm not sure if the 65 watt is enough margin for the system, it might be worth the risk to try that version. Either way the search continues to find the just right case, it took until the PC-Q08B to actually find the right NAS case.
It'll be interesting to compare the systems once they're done since the cpu + motherboards will be similar.
