Lian Li PC-C32B

Post by starsky » Sat Jul 23, 2011 9:43 pm

All,

I just build a silent rackmount build for a friend based on the Lian Li PC-C32B.
I removed the case fans, and used the 90m Noctua heatsink fan and Seasonic X560W PSU fan as the only fans in the system.

Here is a link and some thumbnails.

Under full Prime95 it maxes out at 46c in ambient 24c

I like it!

People keep asking, how many fans do I need?
Here's the answer: one for the cpu and one in the PSU for safety that won't come on.

How would you rate the hard drive decoupling in this case?

The tag says "Noctua NH-U9B lapped".

The Hard Drives are clearly the noisiest item in the rig. (2 x 2TB Seagate).
I probably could have chosen better drives for acoustics, but I know t hat these won't be overly problematics in the environment in which this will live (in an Audio Rack).
My money is on the Amp fans making more noise, which will be my next project, modding his amp).

The decoupling is "ok". They could have done better to make the cage slightly eider and the grommets slightly thicker. That said all the noise I hear is hdd seek, and not vibration noise.

I have a pack of Lian Li Acoustic Dampening I am going to use to try and cover the HDD cage with, and see how it goes.
