WTF as they say! I never realised we had moderators on any of the fora.

Now we really will have to be nice or David will set us 100 point fines!

Me neither!

Y'all can expect me to be the next best thing to NO moderator at all. You don't see MikeC censoring or deleting posts, closing theads, or generally "throwing his weight around," and you won't see it from me either.

David's first new rule: "You must change your F@H user name to David_Hays, or be banned forever"

Welcome aboard David!

Damn, now my time-share at the SPCR condo just got shorter, again.

I wonder if this whole "experiment" might backfire. When we didn't have a moderator, we didn't NEED one, so now that we do, will people start acting like adolescents (not that some don't already), testing their boundaries?

The thing to remember is that SPCR has always had a moderator. All this does is take some of the potential workload off of him. We are approaching 4000 members after all.

(Not that this place has ever needed that much moderation to begin with)

That's true. MikeC. My point is, MikeC is a "hands off" moderator, and I intend to follow his lead. I'm not going to be cruising around locking threads and deleting posts which I find "offensive". #1, there's not all that much I personally find offensive, but #2, who died and made me king? I'm just a moderator, not dictator of ethics and morality and right and wrong.

In this forum, and all the forums at SPCR, people (generally) treat each other with respect. When they say something they shouldn't have, they apologize. People have disagreements without resorting to personal attacks. When someone makes a statement, it's based on knowledge, and they are prepared to back up that statement. There is a great spirit of sharing and helping others. In a place like that, the job of a moderator is a lot like that of the proverbial "Maytag rapair man." :D

Here is the email I got from MikeC:
Hi David,

I've just appointed you as the moderator for the folding forum. I just can't
keep track of all the forums anymore, there is way too many posts...

Generally, the culture of the SPCR forums is civil and helpful, so there's
not much you have to do as a moderator most of the time. Keeping debate from
going out of control is good but often hard to accomplish; sometimes, it's
actually better to let people burn themselves out...

I know you'll do a good job :)

Thanks, David.

Mike

'Nice one' Matey.

EVERY post now has an edit and a delete button, so don't piss me off. Must...resist...temptation!

I can move posts from an existing thread into a new thread. I can make posts "Sticky". I can lock threads. Pretty cool, huh?

Congrats David,

Moderator is hard postion sometimes. You have to know when to leave well enough alone and when to act decisively. Here you have things a bit easier because your rules are lenient enough to allow for much slack, and a community that is nice enough that they do not push those boundaries very often (if at all). I will give you the best blessing I know. May you never have use your moderator power. :)

Is that SPCR company car a nearly silent electric vehicle? 8)

Congrats, David. Didn't I recently say something philosophicalabout getting back what you give? It looks like the karma magistrates have smiled upon you.

Now remember, you must use your powers only good, never for evil...

My company car is a silver on black leatherette BMW 325Ci with Sport Package and a 5-speed stick. Pretty stripped down, no climate control or power seats, but it does have the Xenon headlights and a nice sound system. Thank you MikeC!

Over 1 MILLION miles. That's 43,000 miles per year for 26 years. That's incredible. I'm jealous.

A Datsun pickup in Michigan?!?

Either Michigan has changed since I was last there or people in Grand Rapids are more laid back about foreign autos than the folks in Detroit, Flint, etc.

Does that picture look like michigan? Hint: that's a palm tree underneath the "Dance" sign. (Hint #2: there are no palm trees in Michigan  )

The anti-foreign car thing has pretty much died, unless you actually work for General Motors. (they're the only one of the Big Three that has any manufacturing here locally) The combination of all the "domestic" car jobs going to mexico, plus all the japanese carmakers opening plants in the US has muddied the issue for all but the biggest die-hards. My uncle, a 30 year GM employee gives me grief for driving a Mitsubishi...well at least he did, until I pointed out the "Assembled in Canada" sticker on the door jamb of his Monte Carlo.

But I still wouldn't park it near a UAW picket line.
