Nice find Woodsie, :D

If you manage to click the wrong button... ... on that page you can also find this which is a P4 Mobo and case (incl. 52x32x52x CD-RW and 350W PSU) for $29:99  .

I don't know much about the Intel side of the force... but $29:99 has got to be some kind of mega deal surely.

Don't forget that you're going to have to wait 4-8 months to actually get those rebates back. Pain in the a__...

here's one that *costs* $299!

Hello:

Here's a Sempron 2400+ system that costs $299 -- no rebate required!

http://www.sub300.com/info.htm

Or, here's a "blade" for a farm that could do a LAN boot (Realtek works in Linux, and Linspire is only $14!):

Rosewill 350W Power Supply, Model "RV350" - $18.49

Masscool "FalconRock" CPU Cooler for Socket A/ 370 Model "5F286B" $10.49

pqi POWER Series 184-Pin 128MB DDR PC-2700 -$16.50

PCCHIPS "M863G V1.5" SiS741GX Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU - $36.00

AMD Sempron 2200+ 1.5GHz, 333MHz FSB, 256KB L2 Processor - OEM
$48.00

Product total: ~$130
Shipping & Handling: $ 18 (for one set)

 :o

Of course, with the Linspire, you *could* boot from the Linspire Live CD-ROM (which included for the $14!) but you might need more RAM (?) to do this, so add it up to $145 + shipping. Would/could this work? I.E. booting from a CD-ROM on one blade, and then booting the others through the LAN?

BTW, the Rosewill PS looks pretty interesting...a straight through air flow *pushed* by an apparently quiet 80mm fan.

Wow, their memory upgrade price is surprisingly reasonable! I like...

Their is a special linux distribution that does exactly that. It is called OverFoldix. It costs even less than $14, as it is free.

Are they quite what? The goal is to build a quiet system, or in this case buy a super cheap system, then make it quiet.

Oh, and this is the Folding@Home thread - systems running at full throttle, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

And why wake up a thread that has been dormant for a month and a half??

For a folding farm you can use the often overlooked but very usefull silencing strategy: "Put it in the basement where nobody will here it." Then the individual machines don't have to be quiet.
